russj249 2
Not sure if this is in the right section, but here goes...I have hella quads on my car, and to be honest, they're sh!te.I had some of these Philips bulbs in my old polo, but that was pretty easy using a standard H4 bulb with 2 filaments, meaning I only needed 1 pack for dipped beam and main beam.I can't remember what I will need for the quad's but I know that they are 2 separate bulbs. The thing I'm thinking of is if I buy HID's, I will only have it for dipped beam, and my main beam will still be crap. Does this mean I will need 2 sets of HID's (for arguments sake) one H1 fitting and one H7 fitting? With doing a lot of driving to Wales, I want some superb main beam bulbs, but I'm not sure how to go about it.CheersJoe
b19drg 0
Well from what i gather , Hids that are in your dip beam are good enough and you wont need to worry about hi beam , someone will put this straight im sure try using the search as its been covered before . russj249 2
I've tried to do a search mate, if I search for HID or HID kit or anything it comes up with no matches found. Not sure if site is playing up or it's something my end. Figured it'd be easier to ask.And yea I can understand what you mean about they're bright enough, but I just wouldn't mind something the next level up.
spadam 7
Yea there bright enough as they are no need for hi beam as also they take time to warm up so are no good for hi beam.
russj249 2
Good point there spadam.Do you think it'd be worth getting HID's then for dipped beam, and maybe just for show, some Philips Xtreme Power or Xtreme Vision bulbs for the main beam?Or maybe Osram Night breakers? Also on powerbulbs.com they sell 100W bulbs, now I know they're not road legal as they're not 55w, but as main beam bulbs would they be any good? Or would it melt lights or loom?
VeedubVR 0
I didn't use high beam when I had hids cos they were bright enough. You can gets hids for high beam and don't take time to heat up but your talking big money and its not really worth it.Be careful with the high watt bulbs cos they have been known to melt plastic headlight lenses. editionmatt 1
100w would be pretty stressfull on the loom i would of thort! u cn put heat protective sleeving on the cables but the lampholder itself may not hold up.
russj249 2
yea i thought they might struggle with 100w.i know my hella's have glass lenses but it's the holders etc that might struggle, and the loom.anyway thanks for everyone's help. i will get some hid's now, and go from there.i'm on my phone now so can't search but what make and power is best, and where do a buy from. i want a blue ish tint which is roughly 5000k if i remember correct, but i'd rather hear it from people with experience. VeedubVR 0
4300k are factory hids and are the brightest. 6k ones are like a white/ice colour and 8k ones are light blue.I went for 6k ones on my last car, weren't too blue and could see a lot further! Hids4u have a great kit but are kinda pricey. Byt you can google discount codes for them. But go for a plug and play kit so you don't have to do any extra wiring.
editionmatt 1
be sure to get a remotely decent set tho or they last all of 3 seconds lol i know on the cheapo ones the ballasts go all the time. i want some but im reluctant to get any untill i have projectors! Low & high beams are HID and is more than enough light, even when dipped. Some cheaper kits don't have high beam in HID...
Lukey. 381
ive had my fair share of cheap HID kits and they never lasted too long. The only ones ive had flawless results with is hids4u kits, with toyota pro as discount code the H1 35w pro kit (all you need, 35w is plenty bright enough and ultimate is only required for brand new cars with canbus networks) is £67 and free post too so only £7 more than ebay kits, they also offer awesome warranty, but ive never even needed it. russj249 2
Calico do you have 2 either side for dipped and main?flashing people ain't a problem for me.. because as a rule i try not to flash people as most time i do, somebody gets the wrong idea and i normally end up braking!driving to wales though through some of the mountains i don't see another car for 10 minutes sometimes, so if they're like daylight and noticeably brighter than hid on dipped.. me want!
