How was it for you?

well i didnt technically buy a vr6, but i did have a mk3 gti 8v and that was nippy here and there, and i was told that the vr is heavy a sluggish etc etc but since doing the swap i found that people tlak alot of bob because they have never driven one. i found that with the right suspesion set up it actually handles the same as the gti and it is loads quicker, its the best decision i have done. i can throw it in corners the same as the gti and put my foot down and the power comes on straight away but be carefull you see low teen mpg although that said i got 35 mpg doing 70-80 on the motorway from loughborough to derby.

Had a mk7 gt escort- pretty quick for 1.8. Got mk3 vr6....christ, the pull, the noise, the smiles.lol....but as mentioned^^^^^ not many miles....lol although to be honest, if you want mpg why have a vr6 with the POW at the mercy of your right foot. Mine has just started costing me mney, iv spent best part of a grand last few months mainly on maintanence and still i have a list to do, and thats with cheap labour. Having said that, slammed it on coilovers and it handles so good, with all that power to use...not regretting my decision at the moment!!

Mine was pretty stressfull all the way through really until i got the keys in my hand. i have to say it was the best feeling ever from going to a heavy 1.8 astra sri sport to the vr and driving her home, never hearing a vr sound before and driving through a tunnel in london sticking it in second....i had the biggest smile on my face ever haha managed to get her pretty cheap aswell at 1400 with 79k on the clock and decent paintwork, oh and its a highline :) nearly didnt buy her cos the seller was a bit dopey and didnt reli sound like he cared if i bought it or not so i kinda had to plant the money into his pocket lol. now starting to have to spend a fair bit of money on her but i think its just at that age now and il never regret spending a penny! i was originally going for a 1.8t mk4 golf but when my loan fell through i had to use what savings i had and thats when i disovered the vr! i shant ramble on anymore but u defo wont regret it once you have one!

Perils....

I bought mine a few months ago and after doing the usual checks made a punt to the guy and got a great bargain. Alas a few weeks later the steering rack was leaking like a sieve so that had to be changed and has to be the worst job I have ever done on any car. I also found out the guy had bent all the jacking point lips (easy fix tho).

Finding a VR is easy, finding the right one you for the right money isn't so easy.

With any car you take a gamble but parts for VR's are readily available should something go wrong

i swaped the vr lump into my golf cl 1.6 and all i can say is you will be smilleing when you hear it roar, its fast aswell put a few people to shame with mine, and the best part of it is how much people know how fast a vr6 act is, those people who do know are the people who drive them :-p the rest you can blow away!

oh yea theres really helpfull and nice people around the vr6 for some resone so getting help or spares is normally fairly easy, i have two mates in bedford to help me out with parts and so on, the people who drive vr6's normaly like there cars and like there vr6 more so seeing other people with them, they normaly help :-p (if that makes sense)

My mate took me out in his corrado VRT and I had to have a VR after that. Hoping to go turbo ;). The feel when boost kicked in was unreal. The noise it made was one of the best noises ever!

I love how the mk3 sits with nose down stance so I wanted a mk3. Took me a few months of search the internet nearly every night. Phoned up a few people and went to see a few, but with some the descriptions on the add werent alway honest, so a lot of time was wasted.

I only wanted a mulberry mk3 VR untilI saw a satin silver one. I had only seen 2 for sale when I was looking for a mk3 and I ended up buying 1 of them.

My first vr came about 6 years ago, the missus made me sell my zx6r kwack as i had my daughter on the way so i agreed but only if i could buy a car with a view to getting the same thrill!

Looked at several, eventually picked no.1 up from cambridge, 6 months later had a supercharger and 330brake an loved it!

Bought a vr syncro, charged that,

Went to an r32 and didnt sound the same and couldnt justify the cost of charging it so i Sold that, got a mk2 with r32 and charger, blew that up..

Mk3 vrt.. still got that and track it..

Now driving a Caddy van with home made rado vr conversion (thanks tony!) and love it..

Have another 3 vr projects one vento restoration and general de-modification and another being stripped down for a new track toy..

I'm on vr number 8 now..

Got to love that noise!!! :)

A few years ago, I took the wife to test drive a Dragon green VR6, I was hooked from then on, the sound is AWESOME the torque is on tap. It took me years of looking and other cars before I settled down and looked seriously for a VR. Then up it came, a dragon green 5 door on fleabay, owner emigrating to Oz. It,s not the desireable highline, but it has what I want, A VR engine and Leather interior oh and reasonably good bodywork. No aircon (that zaps power and fuel). I paid very little for mine in comparison to most on here, I,ve had it checked over, needs a cv joint..bit of body work (they all do) thats it. Mechanic thought I'd paid 3 times what I did. Oh he's a VW specialist had his own tunning company VW's and AUDI's. He said that it drove beautifully and was a good-un, and had I done the lottery that night as well.......................

Basically when you get one you are SO SERIOUSLY gonna LOVE it........... Take your time there's a few out there.
