ENGINE SWAP :D

Recommended Posts

Hellooooo every1

got a question for all you petrol heads :)

i have a mk3 2.8 vr6 with some mod's on it (11mm HT leads, lightened flywheel, lowered 50mm springs, 2.9 corrado gearbox with full straight through exhaust and decat pipe and wrapped downpipe),

but i want to do some serious work on the vr6 engine, to up the horsepower! (wont go into details) and i then want to put that engine in my mk4 golf... including the 2.9 corrado box.

can this be done easily? or are there lots of modifications i have to do?

i'd appreciate any comments :) cheeers people!

Well the best way to up the hp is to fit a charger of some sort.

Fitting the engine an box in a mk4 will be a pain because of the different engine/gearbox mountings.

oh right :( you wreckon its not worth it? i do like the mk3... but i would prefer a nice powerful mk4 with the vr engine..

i wanted to bore it out to maybe a 3 litre, turbo it etc. i saw one vr6 with 650hp! :P

well i drove a mk4 r32 and my vr6 felt just as quick... if not quicker actually :S i thought it'd be easier cos i already have the vr engine. would love to know the power its doing, i done a 14.9 sec at santapod a couple weeks ago and that was with nearly a full tank of petrol :)

is that your vr6 in the pic? if it is.. it looks a beast!

Well the mk4 car is heavier and the r32 looses a bit of power through the 4wd.

The mk4 mounts the engine on the front chassis rails the run through the engine bay, and also has another mount that goes from under the gearbox to the front of the front subframe.

Yes, cheers, that is my car, but its not looking like that atm!

Well sort of painted it' date=' then done my hand in, and now can't put it back toghter!

Oh, you wouldn't have to go 4wd, just use it as a fwd gearbox.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah' date=' cheers.

Whats your thoughts on your idea then?

i do like the idea of it, cos i never hear of any vr6 mk4's and i just love the power and noise of the vr6 but would prefer it in the mk4....

ive been working in a garage for 3 years now and have started college 5 weeks ago to get qualified and would be nice to maybe "practice" on this idea of mine.

have you done everything yourself on your vr6? or project shall i say :) hows the hand?
