donpulsar 0
My thermostat seems to be on its way out (temp gauge barely moving in a 17 mile trip to work, heaters not exactly hot & LPG running like crap when trying to switchover) so when i come to replace the thermostat should I replace it with a standard temperature rated one or a lower temperature rated one?As the housing etc will be coming off, I read somewhere of a racing/motorsport mod involving the thermostat housing (I think it was either opened up, ported, smoothed out..something like that inside to aid coolant flow) - has anyone come across this and is it worth doing?I'll also be changing the coolant, I know the blue stuff is apparently frowned upon so is the VW stuff the one to use or is there a decent equivalent out there?Sorry for all the questions, but any help etc really appreciated!Steve. :-d
Threadbare 0
Hi sorry for late reply I just joined the site. I had the same problem, lack of engine temperature. Just fitted a standard stat from Euro Car Parts about £8. Quite tricky to get at, need to remove coil etc, but completely solved the problem, now reaches 90 deg in 3 - 3.5 miles and never moves again. Heater good too even in the recent weather. I refilled with Glysantine G50 (available from Bill Moss at Track Smart 01327 300400) mixed at 50% with water. De ionised water would be good but I didn t use it. Car hasn t been so good for long time, but didn t notice the gradual decline till winter arrived! I didn t mod the housing, didn t know about that, what's the mod and why? Hope this helps!
