cornishvr6 52
Last month car had its mot with just an abs sensor and new rear calipers needed to see it through so i was really happy with that for an 18year old car Yesterday howerver after an hour or two cleaning the inside, got in to start the car..turned the key..SMOKE..everywhere coming out from the dashboard, steering column, vents, etc with a strong burning smell, s**t myself, turned it back off, opened the doors for the smoke to escape, PANIC TIME,So i got on the phone to my breakdown company who wouldnt touch it who then towed it to a local auto electrical specialist.Had the dreaded phone call this morn, a power lead that powers the stereo had shorted on some wires, melted lots of other wires and worked its way down to the fuse box with a bill looking at upto £300...Thats if it hasn't gone further into the engine bay :@ so at the moment it will be getting re-wired at whatever cost but whether it stays on the drive when i get it back is another question *-)and to top it off the tax is due friday lol

bungy 2
Probably not even a fault with the car but with who ever wired the stereo. For a start it should have been fused correctly to stop damage like that. Feel for your pain though....
cornishvr6 52
Cheers guys, yeh i have been reading up on here about that and seen a couple of people have had issues with the stereo not been fused correctly and the guy at the garage has had a couple of mk3's with the same problem, its had quite a good install in the past with receipts to prove but never mind whats done is done.its having all damaged wires replaced with new right down to the fusebox now so should be ready for the weekend, at least thats something else i dont have to worry about now

jasonoldy69 1
That happened to my 8valver a few years back. The coil pack went and I melted the majority of the loom around it. Can't remember the price in total, but wasn't cheap. Good luck mate
