Apollo 0
Did a quick search for the list of 2011 changes and found this...regarding the list in the original post. That is just somebody's interpretation of a single paragraph from an article in VOSA's magazine "Matters of Testing" (October 2010) where possible changes to the current MoT are explored. The actual text reads...Quote:Other items – such as headlamp bulb and unit incompatibility, headlamp levelling devices and illegal engine ‘chipping’ – will need further thought before we can get a workable solution for MOT stations. UnitedMotorsport 55
All of this is logical stuffWho in their right mind wants to be coming up the other side of a hill to a car that has poorly aligned and over bright headlights, resulting in you not being able to see where you are going. when you get to the top? My opinion is to be a bit stricter and start aiming at the aftermarket rear clusters too. Too bright at the front, and barely visible light at the back? No Thanks! The wiring, that is also just common sence. When I sat on the course for the 'Vehicle Inspectorate' as it was then, we were taught to look at things such as integrity of wiring looms and such. Easy enough to do when your following brake pipes around the engine bay.The Air bag light one has been threatened for years now.Regarding the 'ECU chipping'This will be like it is in some parts the USA. It will be for cars of certain emissions compliance - Think about it, how are they gonna check the engine ECU in a 1983 Metro for example?Ever seen the 'Readiness' box in VAG COM? In some states in the USA they use this capability of the ECU as part of the emissions test, if ANY of the boxes in the 'Readiness' section have "Failed" in them, then your car has failed. The same goes for not being able to communiate with the ECU, ie chopping off the OBD plug. This is all driven by the governments needs to meet certain emisions criteria and it is easy enough to do with the ECU of todays era. because they will tell you if they have been 'tampered' with inccorectly

I think there right to clamp down on mot bur do so on correct things. As I said before how are they gonna get to check a wiring harness in a smooth engine bay?
UnitedMotorsport 55
As I said before how are they gonna get to check a wiring harness in a smooth engine bay? The same way they check brake lines that arent visible - They can'tI think this is all being blown out of proportion by chinese whispers.
