aftermarket immobiliser

hi people

i had to send my ecu off to c2 when i swaped the engine due to a mis match of keys so dose anyone recomed a aftermarket immobiliser thats ideal for the golf?

i have an average cobra engine immobilizer. it fits nice in one of the blanking plates by my air con buttons. it has a red light on the bit you put the thing into so anyone who looks through knows it's there.

there's loads about but make sure you get an alarm specialist who can give you a certificate to prove it's fitted. knocked 400 off my insurance when i was 18 compared to quote's i did on others without one.

i'd also go for a well known such as cobra or scorpion just incase you have any issues, should be able to get bits easy etc

well im not really to bothered about a certificet its more the fact my car gets left in dodgey bedford, 7 cars robed last week, oh i would like a alarm too.

i get you.. i think your best bet would be to an alarm specialist and see what they'd recommend. you might as well have it all wired up with your central locking so you have a remote key fob that opens and locks car but also disengages and engages the alarm and immobilizer at the same time.

one of the best things i ever did was fit remote central locking to my car.

another thing you might want to think about but i have no clue about is a cat 2 alarm with battery back up. just means if anyone broke in and tried to disconnect battery to tow it away or something the alarm will still go off with no main power supply.

well thats the type of system im looking for, i didnt know about the battry back up will need to have a look at that, im going on ebay to see if i can get hold of a toad a101cl, as im happy to instal it my self then i know how well that imobliser is wire in

Don't dismiss getting a certificate... Some insurers insist on seeing at certificate from a certified fitter of alarms/immobilisers if it's an aftermarket system.

Direct line insisted with my old factory fitted one IDIOTS and seieng as it had 4 owners do you think there was one when i bought the car ???? Nooooooooo

i see a fair few toad alarms fitted to cars coming into work. so must be pretty good. if you do a search to find out what cat 1 and 2 specs are, i'm sure there's battery back up and a few other features that put it into the next category.

a red flashing light and a sticker in the window should be a good deterrent on it's own.

Do some re search... i found out that many of the suppliers including TOAD share the guts of their systems with other brands mostly under the branding guise of Directed Electronics

i have a hornet maxx, i have no problems with it and its good at its job, but lacks customisation, if i got another it would be a toad ai606
