1997 Highline Standard Alarm.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know whether the standard VR6 highline alarm and immobiliser is Thatcham approved?? I picked my 1997 Highline up today, and all I have is a leaflet about the 'Logic 850 /950' alarm system.

The one fitted to the car is total closure, and that is all I know.

My insurance co are playing silly buggers until I can prove it's Cat 1 - any ideas?! ?!

Mine just accepted that the car has a CAT1 fitted as it was standard for Highlines on that year!

They didn't even ask about alarms or immobilisers, but when policy came through it stated that it had, so rang and checked and they TOLD ME that it must have one as it was a late spec highline! LOL!

I have same alarm- Logic 850/950 on a 97 VR6.

My insurance company said that it was cat1 in 1997 but had since been "de-listed". I had a letter from a VW dealer saying what was fitted and that it was in full working order but the insurance company were having none of it.

I ended up having a new immobiliser fitted to get insured.

It sometimes seems as if the insurance companies and alarm fitters are in league with each other.

I found this site http://www.thatcham.org/ which shows all standard vehicle alarms and on page 16 the VW logic is shown as de-listed.

Not what you want to hear really but it seems, from looking at some of the other replies on this thread, as if the entire system is far too confusing and even the insurance companies can't understand it.

My company just accepted the standard fit when they asked me if it was protected at all. Similar thing when i bought the Corrado. Although with that, i phoned for a quote and they told me that the factory alarm/immob was not accepted, but when i rang to get it covered, they accepted it no problem!
