R32 driveshafts onto v6 4motion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all, Thought i would share the current chapter in my golf V6 4motion which I have had for 7 years now!

I am gathering all the parts necesary to convert to the R32 wishbones & hubs on my V6 4motion. For those that dont know about this conversion I will elaborate.

Using these hubs and wishbones from the R32 will slightly adjust the geometry of the suspension components and tierods to allow for better handling and less understeer after a standard golf has been lowered. The parts ( as far as im aware ) are common to the

Golf R32

Seat Leon Cupra R

Audi TT (Most Quattro models)

Skoda octavia VRS (not sure on this but most people agree)

Some people have also used the quick steering rack from these cars but most people find they have problems with the traction controll ect so im not going to carry this out as I dont wish to mess around with it.

Parts I have so far.

Hub carriers complete with hubs, ABS rings ect

Wishbones complete with bushes and Ball joints.

Driveshafts complete with CV boots ect

I hope to get all the parts together and carry out the conversion for my next MOT in June. I also hope to list all the VAG and OEM part no's ect but will leave that for another thread.

I need to buy the tie rods and ends and renew the ball joints but for now I have a question.

Included in the parts I bought was the R32 driveshafts, complete and in very good condition. I dont need these for this conversion but.....

Are these driveshafts different to the ones on my 4motion? And are there any benefits to using these? Are they uprated compared to mine?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers

Got this job done today aswell.

R32 hubs, wishbones, driveshafts, tierods, new brake disk shields ect. New bushes, nuts n bolts everywhere I could as i went.

New droplinks and Superpro ARB bushes.

The R32 driveshafts were an 8NO Audi part no and my 4motion ones were a 1J0 VW golf mk4 part no. I couldnt see any difference in their length or diameter ect just different at the end where it fits into the hubs. not a problem for me as I was fitting all R32 hubs ect anyway. All fitted fine.

glad I didnt try this at home as we had to raise the engine to remove the wishbone bolt on the drivers side.

Problems so far after test drive. Traction control is going a bit haywire as tierods not set up and camber is prob out. steering wheel not straight either. Going into Star performance tomorrow for 4wheel laser alignment.

Will report back when all set up :-d

The traction control is going mad because you didn't fit the R32 steering rack.

4motion and R32 front drive shafts differ because of the outer CV joint

The 4motion CV joint has a male thread on the end that a nut is designed to go on

The R32 CV joint has a female thread in the end that a bolt is designed to go in

Doh!

I read that the usual problems with traction control were when fitting the R32 rack and it was ok when fitting the other parts minus the rack?

Yeah thats why I fitted the R32 driveshafts, just to save changing the hub flanges and bearings ect. The driveshafts cost me nothing really thats why I just fitted them.

Going in at half 3 to be setup on laser alignment. If theres still problems I will run it with Traction control off untill I source an R32 rack and see what happens then.

The only adjustment I have on the rear is Forge adjustable rear arms. When they adjusted them for camber it probably sorted the toe too? It was set up and adjusted as per an R32 with sports suspension.

Rear Before adjustment

Left camber -0deg 46 Right Camber -1deg 04 Left toe 0deg05 Right toe 0deg17

After

Left camber -1deg19 Right Camber -1deg19 Left toe 0deg08 Right toe 0deg09

Although the rear was out before adjustment I didnt have any uneven tyre wear or anything.
