Desire68 0
I've got an idea that you might want to try, call tim @the Phirm, and ask him to quote you for that job, then you can see what the difference is!Mike.
binliner 0
sounds expensive... and 6.7 hours sounds like a long time to do that!I pay £135 for a full service... add to that the cost of leads and plugs and you're still under £

Slim 0
Sounds to me like he had difficulty doing something, probably the rear bushes as they're a right bugger to do, and has charged you how long it took him instead of how long it should've taken him.
nickg123 0
It was the Rear Bushes that took the time, i think he sepnt a whole day doing them near enough! He said he had to drop the rear suspension off etc to change them.....Still - what sort of time should it take to do them??I must admit i was surprised, i was expecting £350 MAX with all these bits. binliner 0
actually i didnt notice the rear bushes bit... thats probably about right then

nickg123 0
Really? I guess i obviously had no idea just how big a job it was then! He's effectively charged 4 Hours labour for Bushes2.7 Hours Labour for the rest.
vr6freak 3
wow thats quite alot of money. Alot more than i've ever had to pay @ amd nearly twice tha amount for a service. but the rear bushes are quite easy to do if you have the space and tools. I have just done my mates colour concept rear bushes. about 4 hours in total.
nickg123 0
Well that's what he charged me, 4 hours labour for the Bushes....... 2.7 hours was for the rest of the Service so maybe it's not that unreasonable?
acf8181 0
i don't think its that unreasonable.did he use red leads? if so they cost £100.are they o.e. bushes? if so they require the whole beam to be removed and put into a press. would have to rebleed the brakes after as well, which can be a pain to get done properly when rear calipers have been removed. nickg123 0
They're not the Red leads, but i think they were around the £65 mark - they're Black so obviously Non VW but from a local motor factors or something.
VR6Rich 3
I had my rear axle bushes done at Stealth for £150ish! Apparantly early VR's take longer though because they have the brake bias valve.

VR6Pete 1,455
took stealth racing 2 hours if that to do my 1997 VR6... cost about 155 notes!
vdubgirl 3
I'd be p1ssed if i got a bill like that for that work but it all boils down to who you know in the mechanical trade ;-)
nickg123 0
Yeah you'd think so wouldn't you lol - apparently not in my case I went through all the parts supplied on the EuroCarParts site.I reckon he's added about £140 on to the price of the parts, things like£14 for an Oil Filter£9 EACH for Spark Plugs (Euro car parts are £3.50)£12 Pollen Filter£32 "MOUNT" - Assume Bushes???There's a few more things but basically i think it took him ages so he's added the price onto the parts.
