OBD2 mocal oil cooler

Recommended Posts

Hello again people.

What parts do I need to order if I get a mocal oil cooler off ebay? My standard heat exchanger is leaking oil quite bad now so need to change it asap and thought with my car being charged and driven hard sometimes, the mocal might be a good / cheaper option! Any help would be appreciated and any parts required or tips on fitting wouldn't go a miss either.

Thanks in advance,

Gaz.

just FYI

it doesnt matter how tuned your engine is' date=' if your oil isnt going over about 110 you dont really need a more effective cooler, oil is supposed to be kept at normal operating temp, over cooling it can be just as bad as over heating it

I'm not after cooling my oil any more than normal, just thought it would be the cheaper option and may benefit me because my standard cooler is leaking quite bad now.

As for oil temperatures, they're fine for how the car gets driven. Might hit 114 when driven hard for a bit on the motorway.

Agreed. I've took mine off recently because during my commute to work every morning, the oil was never exceeding 84 degrees, causing mayo build ups etc. Oil needs to be at 100 deg C to see it's rated viscosity at that temp. If it never reaches that temp, it causes high blood pressure in the engine, for want of a better expression!

And also, if the oil never reaches 100 deg, it can take a lot longer to boil off the moisture that hangs around inside a warming up motor.

Mine now sits at 96-100 on a 90mph motorway cruise, which is more like it. The reason mine was overheating the oil initially, as I also recently discovered, was because the radiator was old and silted up and the water pump blades hard rounded off slightly (GSF metal bladed piece of crap), reducing it's pumping efficiency.

So before going Mocal and over cooling the oil, first check all the water cooling components.
