another for synta silver 10w40 and NGK plugs. You may want to adjust the viscosity due to your location, depending if you experience very hot temps

And the cheap sinlge electrode BKR*E not the expensive platinum dual ones, (put the relevant heat range you prefer in place of the *, i used 5 which is standard but some on here like the cooler 6 or 7 heat)

changed every 20k instead of every 40k

This is due to VWs (in my view) stupid oil rating system, where an oil that exceeds a previous standard is, by VWs books, perfectly fine for your car too. So a 5w30 that is 507.00 is fine for the VR6 because that needs 505.01 (the 10w40 spec) and 507.00 exceeds the 505.01 standard, yet we all know 5w30 is crap for this engine.

Really? Why is this?

Reason being as when i got my 60k miles vr6 i changed the oil and used 10w/40 castrol magnetec. When i bought the car i had a issue with it loosing compression when cold. After alot of thinking i decided to try a thinner oil as i suspected the thicker 10w/40 was holding the lifters open when cold. So i changed to 5w/40 oil and have had no problems ever since. I've since done 20k miles with no serious problems but if using 5w/40 is going to encourage further problems then maybe i need a set of new lifters.
