just re-read your first post....it was misfiring on the old leads as well? if so, that eliminates it being leads (or means its quite unlikely....both sets could be dodgy (i have known someone buy new fancy leads and one be defective) but it would be a one in a million thing)

next thing i'd do is get the fault codes checked.

could be coilpack (this would not throw up a fault code), but it could also be a number of other things. coilpack is an expensive thing to replace on a whim.

a lot of people reckon its really common for coilpacks to fail, but from my reseacrh i've found very very few cases of it....one perosn on here has had one let go and thats it i think. it is common on seat cupra's with 1.8t engines...i wonder if this is why people think its common on vr6's.

hall sender is more common prob (this would throw up a code) and could possibly give the symptoms you're describing.

just get them to check the fault codes whilst you wait....they'll charge you £35 prob, but make sure what they do is delete all the fault codes, then take it for a drive (and make sure it misfires), then check them again (with engine running or it throws upa code).

I've kinda got the same problem but mine doesnt fly :( drove fine on my way out and was ok most of the way back from a 60 mile trip, about 5 miles from home it lost power, would still go but feels like she's running on 3 instead of 6 Cyclinders? had a quick look under the bonnet but was too busy to have a proper play, started her again but still the same. I've got 4 days off starting tomorrow so i'm hoping to get to the bottom of it. Plugs, Leads then....?

does it sound rough when idling? if not then it sounds like when my hall sender failed.

Have just read this post, and I can tell you that, I had to put my car in to AMD the other day, for similar problems, a couple of times it had developed a missfire usually from cold but more importantly it had felt like it had lost power.

IT was put on diagnostics and I was told that they couldn't really find a cause for the missfire although the plugs were well passed their best, but also that they were getting a G40 sender/sensor? fault. This was replaced, fault dissapeared and in the words of the technician, it now feels like a different car.

As ACF8181, has said, best to get it on diagnostics, it is the best way to tackle these sort of problems, as you could spend alot more trying to guess what it could be.

g40 sensor, thats the hall (or imulse) sensor isn't it? has same prob on mine, though it was actually the thing on the sproket thats had come apart not the sensor.
