GraLaw 0
Hello all, have a problem. I'm looking to lower my MK3 but I'm worried about being able to jack my car up in the future. The seem/ridge where you place the factory jack has bent and is off limits on both sides of the car. A couple of days ago I had a puncture and used my space saver which was also flat. When I let the car down I struggles to pull the jack out. Should I forget about lowering it?

GraLaw 0
Well it passed it's MOT and to be honest apart from the seem everything seems solid. I've shown a couple of people who know a thing or two and they said not to worry about it. I'm in limbo with this lowering kit though.
*P3nfold* 0
To be honest lowering my VR made a huge difference, not only in ride quality but also in handling.I would suggest a good kit if you have the budget, I ride on AP coilovers and its excellent for the money. GraLaw 0
I'll look into them but I really need advice about jacking after I've lowered it. How low is your car and where would you jack from?
CALICO 130
you can jack under the front engine mount after pulling the front spoiler of or drive up onto 1"-2" peices of wood they dont need to be that long then jack off the normal position

How low is your car and where would you jack from?Like Calico said or you can get a clarkee jack I think for lower cars (90 quid on amazon) or do what I do and use vw jack at the back to lift the car and then a trolley jack under the front. If you break down as long as your sills are ok you can use the front, but its for an emergency on my VR.
GraLaw 0
I've tried to jack off the engine mount before but my jack doesn't lift high enough to change a wheel. Could be onto a winner with the wood though. Thanks. While I'm here, I've been looking at coil over kits and lowering kits. I know coil overs are meant to be better but I don't know why? What should I go for?
HAMMER_VR6 0
Im with calico, carry a small piece of timber to use as a ramp. put it in the spare wheel under the carpet and you wont even now its there. I wouldn't jack off the sills unless absolutely necessary they are weak. Buy a trolley jack for general maintainance
HAMMER_VR6 0
Coilovers are better as you can adust the ride height of your car to your own specification. If you buy a lowering kit, they tend to be fixed heights of 30mm 40mm 60mm etc. Coilovers give you the flexibility to adjust the height to perfection
GraLaw 0
So I assume lowering kits are easier to set up? Will I still need to adjust camber etc?
HAMMER_VR6 0
All suspension will take the same amount of labour time to install, coilovers just have a fine thread that runs all the way up the strut body. you screw the adjuster nut up and down the body to deligate ride height. can be udjusted on the car at any time.Camber should be checked with either option really
DanH 1
any height change willneed a geometry setup.....and dont use the sills to jack it up, the're made of tin foil!!!
