ASHLEYG 4
I'm just finishing the build up of my new engine which is low compression and nee some advice on the best way to run it in. It's standard bore size with weisco 8.5 to 1 pistons and ARP bolts etc. I've also got a stage 2 VF9 charger to go with it which includes injectors and a previously mapped ecu when it was fitted to another car.Can I fit the charger straight to the fresh engine and run it in with the charger bolted on? I suppose if I ran it in very carefully for 500 miles then have it mapped it would be ok wouldn't it? Or not??Also, would it be best to run it in on proper running in oil too? I've seen millers do some pretty good stuff.Much appreciated, Ash
FishWick 21
Just drive it normally fella, with the normal Quantum silver oil VW sell.Try and give the engine lots of over-run and acceleration, but avoid maximum revs.Yep, it will be fine to run the charger whilst running in. ASHLEYG 4
Brilliant! So just run it in on Quantam silver for say 500 miles or so, then change oil and go and get it mapped? My engine is fitted with ARP head studs too. Will these need re-torqing after a while? Many thanks!Ash
MaidenVR6 26
Re-toqing your ARP head bolts is a very nice thing to do. When I started my new engine I did 500 km on cheap mineral oil. Reason is that the piston rings sets it self much faster and better. Then it was time for better synthetic oil and some pulls with boost.
