greenb 0
The engine in question is in my mk 2 jetta not had the car to long and didnt do the conversion.in the mornings when i start up it might rev right up then go very low so i reverse out of the drive stop to put in first then it will nearly stall then run very lumpy with blue smoke But the other day it just sat at a very high rpm and wouldnt settle.Today after a run up and down the m3 it was hunting flat out also on over run it does pop a little.I know for sure that i need to replace the ht leads as the former keeper has wrapped the leads with eletrical tape down near the plugs.sorry for the long post but i really dont know alot about these engines.cheersben
ROBSVENTO 0
Replace the leads and plugs thats a must first of all..Id also take off you air intake and clean it all out with carb cleaner, check you air intake pipe after the air flow meter has no crackes in it as any excess air drawn in after the air flow meter will cause all sorts of problems..1 common fault i find in vw's is the coolant temp sender the 4 pin one in the thermostat housing, when these start to fair they make the car play up terrible becasue its telling the ecu the engine hot wen its cold or vice versa.. Switch is less than £20 replace it same time as leads and plugs and problem solved i reakon...
