Vw_owner 1
i have a similar problem, my temp guage doesnt get hotter then 75 and because of this my car runs rich because it thinks it cold, my m8 thinks its a thermostat {blue 2pin} as its for the ecu, well you could have the same problem but with the other thermostat, the 4 pin yellow? not sure, but there cheap to replace if they havnt been already,http://www.the-corrado.net/showthread.php?38925-The-definitive-VR6-cooling-guide&highlight=vr6+cooling+guide
Gazbarber1982 3
There both less than £10 each from VW. The yellow one has been replaced with a black one with a blue / green strip. It's for the fan control and for the aux. water pump.

The blue 2 pin sensor is ecu temp sensor, brown 4 pin is for air con and the yellow / black with blue strip 4 pin is temp sensor for gauge, fans and aux. water pump.

Gazbarber1982 3
What was you doing when the temp got hot? (In traffic, givin it the beans??) Your thermostat could be goosed or your fans might not be kicking in.
makster28 0
fans kick in accordingly at past 90 and will not turn themselves off whilst the car is moving but if i pull over the fans will turn off after a few minutes then i will set off then there straight back on all the way through the drive, also fans will turn off when ignition is turned off i have no after run fans when the engine is turned off, cheers for coolant guide vr
Gazbarber1982 3
My fan used to kick in at 96'c on vagcom or 90'c on the gauge. Not checked into it too much recently as my fans kick in at 76'c on vagcom with no errors showing up but my over run works fine. You need your fan control module checking and replacing but try changing the sensors in the thermostat housing first. Also, there's about 7 different pin combinations for the control module (located under the header tank) so make sure you replace with the same part number. The last letter has no difference really apart from the earlier letter (a) is older than (e) It can brake if water gets in through the fuse cover. I had one go where it kept the aux. Water pump on permanently.
makster28 0
cheers i have changed the fan module for what i think is a working one and i did make the mistake of buying the wrong one at the start however i have a crusty contact on the big connector were the previous module blew on one of the pins,i have changed the brown sensor and am going to get the other 2 along with a new rad switch and see what happens
