legvw 0
Could it be a pipe leaking onto the pas pipe? Like 1 of the pipes coming into the oil cooler on the front of the engine?
dman78 1
as far as i know the pipe that runs along the front subframe goes from the power steering bottle along the subframe to the power steering pump,no water pipes down there mate,if its red in colour its most prob hydraulic fluid mate

eastwood john 1
thanks for the replies peeps, its not the pas pipe, it runs behind the oil filter housing, had a look today and not leaking, a bit puzzled now,
Gazbarber1982 3
The pipe is for power steering. You can get them from scrap yards for cheap enough but make sure you use genuine vw power steering fluid to replace lost fluid. Most other pas fluid rots the seals apparently and a new pump costs a small fortune. I know from past experience!
Lukey. 381
take the top of your pas reserviour and wipe the dipstick on a white tissue, the fluid should be green, if it is pink its been filled with aft fluid which as said above can ruin your whole pas system. you need to flush and refill it with VWs own power steering fluid which the newest version is called G00400. This way you will also know that if the pas fluid is the correct green colour, then the fluid you found did not come from the pas system
Gazbarber1982 3
And it's cheap as chips from VW.

eastwood john 1
how do i empty the system, is there a bung or plug anywhere, plus when ya say flush do ya mean empty system fill with good empty then fill again with good, how do ya flush - turning the steering wheel left to right on full lock, is this the way to bleed too, how do you no when fully blead, sorry for all the questions,,, lol
Lukey. 381
really a flush of the pas system is to empty it, which you would be best to disconnect the pipe that runs along the front, then with the wheels off the ground steer all the way right and left a few times which will pump the fluid out of the rack, then fill it up with the proper stuff and bleed and circulate it then empty it again until there is no sign of the presence of the undesired fluid, so in this case it would be till the fluid is a clean green colour not contaminated by any pink aft.To bleed would be put the front wheels in the air with the engine running and slowly turn the wheel from lock to lock watching the reservoir level and topping up as necessary until it stops falling below the level,it will make a mess lol and probably more hassle to try and do a 100% flush, maybe refilling and re emptying it once would suffice, then re filling and re bleeding with another bottle of new fluid.Luckily 1 bottle of fluid will do a complete fill and is about £6 so 2 bottles to do a substantial flush and another fresh refill is not expensive.so does this mean that you found pink atf in the pas system? eastwood john 1
many thanks lukey your a star, yes have checked pas oil and is not green as a matter of fact its not red either, :Sits more like a dirty clear fluid, so god knows what`s in there, think best it should come out sooner the better, saying that ive had vr now for 3/4 years now and never changed this oil + never had any probs, so the sooner the better before i do i say,,lolthe pinkish red water ive seen on the pipe in question must be thermo/housing, crack pipe area, will have to check this out, thanks again will let you no how i get on,
