Oil And Water

Hey all

Looking at giving the VR a wee treat. Replacing coolant and oil change.

Re the coolant, I hear G12 is the coolant of choice and I hear the coolant system is around 10 litres. Total flush and say 7.5 litre coolant topped up with water? Sound ok?

Re the oil, I have done prob around 10k and never changed and tbh never topped up. I have checked every month but the dipstick doesnnt change really. Never had an oil light on either? What brand of oil works best with the V6?

A lot go with quantum synta 10w 40 . Note sure about the coolant i would go with more water than coolant now the freeze as gone. Water cools quicker than coolant, but am sure someone could give you some better advise

im running mobil 10-40w and the g12 iv used was a 50/50 mix , but ive also read what chief vr says above,also its not just an anti freeze its also inhibits corrosion so dont go without thinking your be running super cool,if in doubt just read the label on the coolant and it will tell you the exact recomended mix ratio,

two bottles of VW G12plus plus (3 litres and the rest water) is enough for all year round, the more water in the system the better as its a more effective heat transfer medium than the G12plus plus, all the G12 is for is to stop the water from freezing.

G12 does do other things like corrosion protection and also has a certain amount of "self healing" property that will seal up any minor problems on the inside of the pipes.

Dont use others that say the are compatible, go for VWs own, its the best

Oil the cheapest and most will say is best (myself included) is quantum synta silver, get it from a VW dealer or TPS
