Sidhu88 1
Just tried to wire up my amp for the front door speakers in my Mk3 Golf. Its a component set if it helps. The problem im having is that when i turn the stereo on, the speaker crackles for a couple seconds and then the stereo goes into protect mode. I thought at first it was a grounding problem, but i changed the ground from the first place which was just behind the dash, to the negative on the battery. I thought this would have ruled out the problem but it was still the same. The second issue i thought it may have been is the wiring for the speakers themselves. I used the original wiring from the speaker to tweeter, which is now wired from the speaker to the lil amp that comes with the tweeter, however it may be wrong as its not easy to distinguish which wires are for what (the wire colours are not the same at the speaker and tweeter). Aside from that i'm not sure what else it could be, anyone have any ideas?
gavinvr6 0
re-run the wires with new stuff, the stuff vw use aint exactly brilliant, you may have disturbed a brittle cable. but it sounds more like your sending the signal back to the stereo, basically the same has hooking up the poss and neg together. hence why its going into protect to stop it burning out the stereo.even if not same colour wires there should be a marker to distinguish what is what, ie....red dot for poss black dot for neg, or a imprint of a + or - sign on the little board the posts are attatched to on the speaker. Sidhu88 1
there all new cables aside from crossover to speakers because they run through a weird grommet sorta thing and theres no holes in it to run any cables through, i dont wana drill through it cos im unsure of whats on the other side of them. i'll try running fresh cables around the outside instead see if it helps. i do a moderate amount of stereo installs through work, n i've set up a few systems in the past but the colour coding for these wires are stupid. normally u'd have a solid car then one with a break, but not the case in the golf lol. i'm gonna have another crack at it, will report back later
