Project Shirley VR6 - New Pics added 12/06/11

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Well I got my new project the other day.

Just for weekends and the occasional bit of fun.

My daily is a slammed B5.5 Passat TDI 130 (coilies, stickers, mapped etc). I have been into my dubs for the last 10 years, Having owned a MK2 Ibiza GTI, MK3 Ibiza Cupra, MK3 Golf Valver, Leon cupra, all tuned to a silly amount of power, I sold the leon cupra (gutted), due to petrol prices. Passat is now all paid off and I wanted something fun again, so I picked this up the other day

MK3 Golf VR6, 113K on the clock. Paint despite a few scuffs is in very good condition, and looks like it has been polished a lot. Colour is Mystic Blue

Mods so far is only a set of JOM coilies and it comes with quite a rare biscuit colour interior. Rear seats in great condition but there is a tear on the drivers seat

Car has come with very little service history, so need to get it serviced. Also keeps overheating to, so I have ordered a new thermostat from Awesome gti, new coolant housing etc with all new seals...arriving soon

And here she is:

Ordered some underseal with waxyoil, to do the arches and underneath, green panel filter, full set of red coolant hoses and silver brake disc paint to tidy her up.

Plans will be some new wheels, cat back exhaust, tidy up the engine bay and to get the bodywork sorted out and thats it really, and just to enjoy it at shows

comments welcome :)

Looks good. Might be worth adding a de-cat to your list aswell.

thanks mate, I might consider that

What are the gains like (apart from more noise) to do the decat?

although I thought it was illegal for anything newer than a 93 year old car to run a decat?

only thing with a decat is less back pressure, and this isn't one of the torqueist (if such a word!) type engines....

  • 1 month later...

Well a few updates

Debadged her (might be re-adding the badges though but covered in real carbon)

pulled out most of the dashboard buttons (the blank ones) and my mate is covering them in real carbon

Won a cat back Miltek exhaust system (oval tail pipe) which is getting fitted on Monday

Lamin-x the fog lightts

Got an inlet manifold. It turned up and it was already painted to a really high standard, anthracite, so my mate is just polishing the runners for me

cut out the plastic insert on the VR airbox, so it is less restrictive now and got a green panel air filter fitted too

Polished all the metal bits in the engine bay and gave it a good clean, as well as claying and polishing the whole car

Samco red coolant hoses have finally been shipped after waiting two months, so will get these fitted, and spraying the 2.8 engine cover in a crackle red paint to match the new red coolant hoses

pressed plates on order too

I think thats it at the moment

I will get some pics up soon.....oh and ordered some stickers! I love my stickers

Pics to follow over the next few days :D

lots more plans too.....

Managed to get some pics today to show off some of the work so far

De-wipered

debadged

IMG_5706.jpg

All dashboard buttons pulled out at the moment, currently with a friend who is covering the faces in carbon

IMG_5707.jpg

Shows what a quick 20 mins of polishing the bits in the bay does. Really bought up the bits nicely

IMG_5708.jpg

IMG_5709.jpg

Fresh new coolant bottle (as it had split from a previous issue of over heating), and polished up the piece next to it as well

IMG_5710.jpg

Part Cleaned engine bay. Sprayed inlet manifold to be fitted soon, but my mate who is doing the carbon bits is also polishing the runners

IMG_5713.jpg

Front fogs lamin-x'd

IMG_5712.jpg

IMG_5720.jpg

And a picture of the old manky exhaust, which is going tomorrow (which reminds me....I need to polish it)

comments and feedback welcome, but a WIP so far :)

finished refurbing one wheel today, ready for priming and painting

going to spray this up as a test wheel and see how it comes out. Pending how it turns out I will finish off the rest of the wheels, or if not, then I will be saving for a proper refurb
