Daverse 175
Hi guys, Been lurking round here for a while now, and I love this forum! So much so that it inspired me to buy a VR6 and a Vento Over the time I've been on here i have been plodding along with the conversion, doing bits in afternoons and when I can get a free moment. (Plus I'm a lazy git so progress is slow!) I iaim to make this into a track weapon, aiming for around 350-400bhp with most likely a turbo. Although I am on a tight budget, there will be no expense spared, and no corners cut!I bought a engine off a breakers, but I made a silly mistake of buying a OBD1 block to go into a OBD2 car... I contemplated making the car obd1, but thought for futures sake it may be best to leave it OBD2. So sold the block, and got a new one So the strip down begins! front end comes off, and the loom and various pipework e.t.c. comes off and very slowly the engine will come out, Biggest problem I had was the inevitable rounded / rusted bolts and the driveshafts were really well stuck into the shaft cups, (nothing a good beating with the hammer wont fix ) This leaves the bay pretty much bare, give it a wipe down and a lick of hammerite round the rusted steering racks wishbones e.t.c. ready for the engine to go in.This is pretty much where I've got to I'm afraid. I can only do a bit at a time, and theres one thing aftger another with this project, one problem springs to mind when i was trying to take the old loom out, I had cleverly parked it right next to a woodsaw, so I couldnt open the drivers door! Needless to say, laying upside down across a handbrake and gearstick is very uncomfortable!! I'll try and keep it updated when I can, hopefully may be of some use to people who are pondering the conversion. At the minute im just mating the gearbox (Thanks to Neal H for the box and shafts) to the block, and its a minefield of problems if your trying to do it outside of the bay, any advice? Or people willing to give me a hand?! Sorry I havent worked out how to put the pictures inbetween the text yet, so you'll have to make do with all the pictures jumbled together at the bottom Cheers for all the help and advice everyones given me, definitely wouldnt be where I am now without you lot!! Daverse 175
Thread ressurection!!!!Been mega busy so not had much time for the car Taking the cross member and subframe to powdercoaters to get resprayed as their looking a bit rough! Will post pics up when their done for review.. After much deliberation I managed to get the VR into the bay and flush onto the mounts, took about 5 hours to do 3 bolts! Main problem I have is that my wich pulls the engine at an angle so its near impossible to get it vertically straight, And I have started wiring the loom up for the engine, what a faff that is! While I have been waiting for parts e.t.c. I've been cleaning all the grease and oil out of the engine bay, so its shiny shiny now And look at that sticker for alignment! Didnt really work as well I had hoped.. Still working on it, and will keep you lot updated as often as I can, if your interested Cheers
Daverse 175
Thats pretty much how its been sitting recently. Although now my work circumstances have changed so I now have more time that I'm dedicating to the car I've just finished all the wiring, fusebox and relays, and now in the middle of wiring alternator and starter motor to battery, and the little other electrical things need sorting. In the mean time, I have been slowly building up a pile for my turbo install. Got Paul Parky's old turbo and custom manifold, a custom made SRI (Cheers dude!!) and adjustable fuel reg as well. I've also got a intercooler from a RSTurbo from a breakers yard for a tenner, Just need the little things now to get it running. Also been tearing the insides out, every gram counts! dashboards out, planning on making my own lightweight dash out of aluminium, that will hold the clocks and cages, simples! next on the list is a good service, got gaskets, bolts, spark plugs, filters e.t.c. from TPS, so will be cracking on with theat in the next few days, then If I can get the final wiring done, should be ready to start! famous last words.. photos below:Thanks for all your support and help guys, I hope you like Cheers

Daverse 175
Righto, its been a very long time, in fact anyone could have got it done and finished and driven it by the time I've got this far! Anyhow, been making small progress here and there, doing what I can with what patience / money I have been further ripping out the interior, carpets gone, most of the electrics and going to cut out the parcel shelf some time next week hopefully to make way for a pile of scaffold also whipped the engine out, cracked the head off, doesn't look too bad, pistons look in good nick but valves could do with a lap. so sent it off for a skim (will get pics off the new head soon):Also got some new 5 stud wheels, anything to get it on fresh rubber right? (This is how long its been since I updated this!) Last year at Billing I got Paul Parky's old turbo and mani with a SX FPR, and got him to make up a new SRI for me, got to say looks flipping awesome, cant wait to bolt them bad boys on!! If I ever get round to it I will shot blast the engine down and give it a lick of paint as its looking a bit tired now, just debating whether to go the whole hog now with the uprated pistons and new valves e.t.c now or leave them for a later date? I just want to get it on the road again now!! Here's some more random pics I've taken along this never ending story...There used to be a clutch there!^^That's all folks, I'll keep trying best I can, but work is a bit slack at the moment so only doing what I can. Cheers, Dave
