Question about vr6 intake boot and sensor.

Hello,

My VR has it's intake boot pretty ripped apart and I want to change it.

Questions:

1) It comes with the attached crankcase breather valve or whatever the hell it's called. The valve has a sensor connector on it which on my car is fake as far as I can tell (it's only a plastic mold without real connectors, but I do have the connector which goes into it.

What's up with this ? Do I really have a sensor or not ?

The part above says that it has real intake sensor input not fake one. So this is called an intake sensor right ?

2) I also found this other replacement part from these guys, it looks really nice : http://www.42draftdesigns.com/categories/products/in_mk3vr6up.html

But as it looks this one bypasses the sensor thing completely in favor of a more simple design. So again do I need that sensor ?

Also the intake valve I have, has a little vaccum on one of it's sides which goes all the way to some kind of pump near the headlights and the horn, again the part above bypasses that too.

3) Does this breather valve only take the gases from the crankcase or does it actually let's air in the crankshaft depending on whether it's open or not to refresh it ? Some say it does some others say I can remove it without any problems, and still others suggest to leave it on unless i want to damage the engine.

Is there a reason to also install a KN type crankcase breather filter then ? http://www.knfilters.com/vent.htm . and where exactly should I install it ?

I'm really confused, what part should I choose ?

you dont need the sensor, as you say its a dummy sensor, this is only a real sensor in some markets that require it for extreme cold, if its a dummy you can negate it completely and just cable tie the connector out of the way.

that intake tube looks identical to a bonrath power rohr, which is less that half the price and will be bought from much closer to home as they are mostly sold from germany.

You will need to plug the vacuum line for the crankcase valve aswell to maintain a sealed vacuum system cos otherwise your ecu will chuck all sorts of error codes due to incorrect vac pressure.

if you are going to run without the OEM PCV leave at least a crankcase filter on there, really onnly to stop bits falling in your engine, it doesnt suck air in from there as the pressure inside the engine is positive.

if you want to do it properly like spadam said in the other post you want to get hold of a catch tank and some 19mm ID oil resistant hose and make yourself a recirculating system.

one more question. what is the exact role of that vacuum line ? does it help keep the valve open or closed depending on how much I press the gas pedal ?

Also thanks for the intake tube suggestion. It seems that most of the tuners with cool parts for Vr6's are located on the other side of the pond. bummer.

the role of that particular vac line take-off is to keep the valve shut until pressure from the engine side forces it open, its very important to block it and make sure its sealed as vac lines do all sorts of stuff around the engine and ancillaries and bad vacuum can cause many things to stop working properly

i believe your question has already been answered in the first few posts of this thread if not do a little search and you'll find much more info on the subject.

The short answer to your question is no, no harm will come to your engine.
