trackman 0
Just guessing, but it could be a stuck open thermostat.Check your pipes from cold. Start her up, and check the temperature of the plastic pipe that runs across the front of the block (just above the oil filter housing) and check the top radiator hose. If they both warm up together, then you're thermostats stuck open. It should be closed when the engine is cold so that it can warm up quicker by not going through the radiator. As for your fan switch, it's two stage (low/high speed).Stage I comes on at 92-97deg, Stage II comes on at 99-105deg, Stage II drops down to Stage I at 91-98deg and Stage I drops off at 84-91deg.Cars with Aircon also have a Stage III fan speed.Do you get decent heat from the heater when the temp gauge reads low? trackman 0
If the stat is stuck open, normally you'd just buy a new one. They not too expensive, I reckon a tenner or so. It fits inside the large plastic housing at the end of the plastic pipe that I talked about before.I'm not sure how slow the fan is at Stage I, so either it's too slow to make any decent sort of noise, or your fan switch isn't working properly.Rich
yellowslc 0
the quick test for the thermostat is.. start engine when cold.. wait until the gauge reads ~180 degrees F (80C?) and touch the lower radiator hose. A stuck thermostat will never allow the coolant to pass through the lower radiator hose.
