filtee 0
Is there anyone on here in lancashire (pref near chorley) that wouldn't mind letting me try their maf on my 93 obd1 vr. It wont idle at all now. Ive unplugged the maf whilst revving slightly (so it ticks over) and it made no difference. Ive arranged to drop it off at my local vw specialists but wanna try this first. Ive also cleaned the TB and the ISV (also removed the isv breather) but to no avail. I found a fuel breather coming from the fuel filter to the TB via something with a wire plug on. This had melted in half on the manifold. I removed the bit off the TB and connected the other bit back on (as it should be). I thought this was the idle problem but it wasn't, it's just the same. Please help

filtee 0
Only prob is its not taxed or mot'd as ive just bought it cheap. Dont really wanna drive it. Plus it wont tick over so would be awkward.
Gazbarber1982 3
Buy a code reader off eBay for a tenner. It will give you a fault code and you can check what the error is. It could be any number of things as well as a faulty maf. Trying another maf on your car wouldn't really work because your car would have already tried to adapt to your current maf so the learnt values would be out. Pm admin and see if there's anyone in your area with vagcom that could do it for you. They can also clear your codes whilst they are there. What reg is your car?
stormgreynolan 0
yeah u need a decent scanner that can erase emmissions related data because it will learn the values of your current maf if it is knackered your fuel trim will all be to cock the lot a ten pound scanner off ebay wont be able to reset that
filtee 0
Its a k reg 93. Ive been meaning to buy vagcom as i have a caddy van also. So would tryin a maf not make any difference at all?
Gazbarber1982 3
It could make a bit of a difference but you need to know what faults your cars showing. You might plug a maf in and have the same problem and it could be there's nothing wrong with yours or the donor maf. If you disconnect your battery for around half an hour your ecu should forget the learnt values and start from scratch. You could do with checking which diagnostic port you have in your car too. Take your ashtray out and the little rectangular plastic bit to the left of the ashtray should slide out to the right. If you have a 16 pin plug there then a normal obd2 cable will be ok for diagnostics.
filtee 0
Its obd1. The port isnt next to the ashtray.
Gazbarber1982 3
You will need the 2+2 adaptor as well then. That should be behind one of the blanks near the rear demister
