david.hanagan 0
Random question time! Can anyone advise if automotive sandpaper is the same kind of stuff that you can pick up from say Homebase? I need to do my Borbet A rims which will need to be sanded to shine them but other then Halfords - who has a distint lack of options in sandpaper, there isnt anywhere else in my area that sells sandpaper.ThanksDavid
russj249 2
If your doin wheels to a polish you'll want to do it wet so you'll need wet and dry paper which is normally black.unless it specifies on the pack that it's wet and dry paper i wouldn't use it. normal household sandpaper typically yellowish colour would be no good.have you got a local motor factor or anything close? halfords is where i got mine from and with a trade card it works out dirt cheap. The only thing we have is Halfords, which i dont mind using but they only sell it per grade in a pack and at £2 per pack and needing numerous grades it will work out expensive.... i dont have a trade card :-(
russj249 2
I can see what you mean. when i did the lip on my bbs wheels i used 240, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1500. then abrasive polish after that. so a lot of packs needed. i doubt they'd be enough paper in their assorted packs to do all 4 wheels as there's only 1 sheet of each.how soon do you need then. the other option which might sound silly is ebay? i'm sure there will be loads on there dirt cheap and if you can get all sorts of grit from same company they can post out together. tjsmudger 2
Get some off eBay, plenty of sellers on there, the do packs containing the different grades you will need!
michael5556 247
I get mine from halfrauds, they do sell different grade wet and dry packs, they also sell aluminium oxide paper which doesnt clog.

david.hanagan 0
I want the rim to look like your picture 5 but leave the rest painted! Looks awsome mate, good job! The rears already have the laquer removed, but the fronts dont, wants the easiest way to remove the laquer without damaging the rest of the wheel?
MJ Vr6 79
Just use normal Nitromous.Be careful when using, do not get it on your skin, otherwise your skin will burn like if its on a BBQ.Pretty simple.Give us a shout if you get stuck, look out for the pittin!!!! I have used Nitromors before and it lifts pretty much everything. Would it really be that safe to use as i dont want the paint on the centres to be removed, or would it just be a case of be careful!?I can just go ahead and do the rears as there isnt laquer, and there is pitting so will have to start with the harsh stuff i guess! Took me 2 weeks to finish them wheels bud, not an easy task as I do not use a lathe. All my work done by hand!Start with P120 on the pitting areas.Anything else, jus ask or PM.. 8-)

david.hanagan 0
Any further developments on this mate..?Just replied to you via PM, didnt realise you mentioned the polishing as well. Well i used sandpaper all the way through the scales, made a massive difference and they do have a slight shine to them now but i havent mirror polished them as what i have decided is during the 1st week of august i have a week off of holiday so going to spend a whole week tinkering with the car and wheels.
