I guess when you say nothing, you mean no lights on the dash or anything. You've probably already tried disconnecting the stereo. Does anything else electrical work (ie central locking) that doesn't run through the ignition switch? Is it possible that you've left something on overnight and the battery's gone flat and the stereo change is just incidental?

do you have a combined alarm immobiliser? if you disconnected the battery it'd be worth re-setting it. my old one went a bit mad when i disconnected the battery, just put the little key into the unit, turn it off and then back on again -usually sorted it out

There shouldn't be any critical wiring in the area of the dash where the stereo goes, so I doubt it's anything to do with wiring or connectors, although a short circuit somewere may be depleting your battery.

Do you get the normal red lights (oil, temp etc) when you turn on the ignition? Do they go dim when you try to start the car?

Check that your battery terminals are secure. The terminals on my 94 Cabrio have a habit of popping off when I tighten the retaining bolt too much...
