I have a W Reg 4motion, I have changed the battery but I upgraded to a larger output one.

The original factory fit is the black VW one made by Varta. The replacement one I bought from VW in 2005 was an original factory fit VW one (made by Varta) it was just a larger size and output. I had to get rid of the cloth cover for it because of its bigger size though. I intended to buy a hard plastic case as fitted to the later models but never got round to it and I doubt I will ever bother now.

Varta batterys are made by BOSCH so either or will do if you are after an OEM supplier. I wouldnt buy a batrtery from the VW dealer again I would just goto ECP's or GSF or similar and go for a BOSCH.

Original tyres in 2000 on the 4motion were prob 205/55/16 Michelin Pilot primacy?

Splendid, Thanks.

I too have a larger than stock 'naked' battery and an immaculate cloth cover laying in the boot. Annoys me as the engine bay looks unfinished! I wanted to know the battery spec so I could fit the original and put the cover back on it.

Michelin Pilot Primacy, I will look into that and fit a set of them when I next change tyres.

Thanks for your input reido80

Take Care.

Cheers Lukey , Looks like a good website there, Prices seem good too. will keep that in mind next time the battery is due.

851 corsa, your welcome mate, I Think it would have been Michelins primacy's back in 2000. Michelins are expensive but they wear well. I tend to go for Michelin, Vredestin or continentals depending on my budget at the time.

I Try to keep the 4 tyres the same brand ect if possible. Not the end of the world if its not possible, just gives more predictable (safer) handling.

Keep us updated on how you get on.

I thought that site wasn't working........

Yes, quite good.

The BOSCH s3 and s4 at 242mm long, will fit inside the cloth battery cover....

but will the 278mm s5 and s6?

Has anyone had one of these s3/s4's in their car long enough to confirm they are up to the electronics littering the car?

VW must have changed to a larger battery for a reason. Did the earlier VR6's have as many electronic devices as the 4motion?

------

The only thing I have had done to the car since buying it is Laser tracking.

When I get the rear suspension bushes done at service time I plan to change to the Primacy's.

Once you pointed out that it was these I looked at the tyres on the period road test magazine cars and they do look like Michelin Primacy,

Logic says it should behave better with the tyres it was developed for but with ESP and normal road use, it will probably make no difference at all!!!!

Drive carefully
