Daverse 175
youll not get them creases out of the bonnet mate, be best (and cheaper) to get another bonnet from breakers or somewhere like that.
VR6Nat 9
Yeah mate, you're going to struggle to get that shut, get onto the local breakers, there is always mk3s in them, should only be about £20-30 for a decent bonnet, its the easiest way, same with sunroof. BenVictors 1
Take the bonnet off completely and bang it back into some kind of normal shape, put yr new catch on and providing the centre of the bonnet is something like, then it should close. You will defo need a new bonnet tho mate. If yr anywhere near Leeds I have a black one you can have for a tenner, also a new sunroof for £20 :-)
DsH 2
ben i might just take that bonnet off you im hour and half away from you, are the bonnets easy to remove?
VR6Nat 9
if not try Rimar Salvage LtdRailway StGrimsbyDN32 7DATel: 01472 345087dunno how far from you that is?
DsH 2
i've rang them they dont have a mk3 golf, is there anywhere on the thats accessible where i could tie down the bonnet rather than the grill near the front splitter?
VR6Nat 9
the bonnets are real easy to remove by the way but you will need an extra pair of hands to help.
Daverse 175
you could try where the heatshielding goes into the bonnet, might be able to get a rope around the supports there?
gary.scales 0
Is this common on golfs? Is there anything all of us should be checking to prevent another unfortunate accident? I do a lot of motorway miles and really would not want this to happen at motorway speeds...... Gutted for you mate, but it could have been a lot worse...... Hope you get it sorted soon
BenVictors 1
Providing you dont have an engine under tray, get yourself a ratchet strap, hook the strap through the catch bracket on the bonnet itself and hook the other end round yr front cross member, if yr really low, pull ya front splitter off an you can get yr hand underneath to work the ratchet to pull the bonnet closed. I will send you a pm with my number if you want this bonnet bud
DsH 2
right, ive got a friend coming round, we're going to take the bonnet off and try and flatten it, windscreen was replaced today, i know full well im not gettin the creases and dents out but what are the chances of getting it to lock, and would if pass an mot without a bonnet hold and a dinted bonnet?
Madrocker 0
if the bonnet locks closed and opens properly then it will pass an MOT as long at the edges aren't sticking out loads
jasonoldy69 1
Pics are shocking, can't believe it. Bros was saying what happened. Any updates?Out of interest, who replaced your windscreen, how much. I need mine doing.
DsH 2
a1 glass or something it set me back £114, the only thing that makes it worse is that the MOT has literally just ran out, and my street its being parked on is being resurfaced, i might somehow have to get it to yours because we're struggling the get the bonnet off, as the right side bolt has been rounded off...
