briscoe 0
the coolant pipe that feeds the heater matrix is hanging off!! in the engine bay the plastic pipe that dissappears into the car is perished. is it replaceable without the heater matrix being changed or is that connected to the heater matrix?what the hell do i do now ?! any quick fixes as im supposed to be going to newcastle?how much for a new part?kind regards nick
briscoe 0
if its the matrix how long does it take to take it out? and whats required
trackman 0
It's not looking good. According to the diagram I have, it's all one piece. That means dash out to get to the heater matrix. Not sure how much new ones are.
briscoe 0
is that a massive job, pain in the arse job? or is it simple?do i have to remove just the bottom parts of the dash to remove it or the whole shbang?any sort of rough time scales to sort it out?sorry im new to vw's im a former vauxhall nut, and scooby owner ! acf8181 0
yep...dash has to come out, and yes will be a fairly long job...also very good chance dash will sqeek or rattle as they never go back in like they were.i think...think....you can by pass it as a temporary measure, by removing the other hose that goes into the bulkhead and joining them together. bung up the holes as there will be water in the matrix and you dont want it possibly leaking into the car. madvr6 0
Its a massive job mate, did it to mine a while back. the whole dash has to come out and some of the ducting behind it. Heater matrix only cost aroud £35 i think. You can by-pass it as acf8181 says but that means you get no heaters! not the best time of year for it!
briscoe 0
the dash has to come completely out? the whole thing, bloody hell!
briscoe 0
is it worth paying the vw dealership 220 all in to fit it then?
stu h 0
£220 seems cheap -u sure they dont mean £220, 000 lol
briscoe 0
lol, i did ask her to check it x2 lolyou wreckon thats cheap £60+ an hour +vat for a 3 hr job
stu h 0
i was under the impression it cost a lot more than that. by the sounds its a ball-ache job so for that money i'd just hand them the keys!!
briscoe 0
was thinking that. although i have read that there is hardly anything holding the dash in, a few bolts. is it true that the steering wheel and all that have to come off to get to the matrix?
briscoe 0
anyone done this before and got a guide?
fabio_vr6 0
if it is in the engine bay then yes the pipe is replaceable as it connects to the heater matrix at the bulkhead!
acf8181 0
he means the plastic (of the matrix) where the hose connects to is snapped off.
briscoe 0
yes i do mean the matrix. i have my dash out now.two days strip down for a 20 second pull out and push in job, kinda takes the perverbial a little, but hey has to be done. didnt fancy the 229+vat at vw to do it. acf8181 0
just take your time to make sure its all back in as well as poss, or you'll get some squeeks and rattles.
fabio_vr6 0
ooh, did you know you can do the matrix without taking the dash off a bit harder but saves all the time lol

briscoe 0
done it now filled up with coolant. do i have to bleed the air out or does it bleed itself?
fabio_vr6 0
on a vr6 you have to get the air out, run the engine and pour it in slowly
