badboyV6 4
Just taken my VR in for an oil change and coolant change back to G12. I asked them to run a compression test to keep my mind at rest. Came back compression should be 170.Its running between 120 and 170 and varying between cylinders..... Heads going to need to come off. They tell me it could be guides, valve seats many thing- for fooks sake im depressed now....Theyve given me a quote of around 400 quid to recondition it and get it working right. This sound fair to me What do you think? Im going to buy tappets as well and get them to put them in. Im gutted cos i cant afford to get it done now as my mrs has forced me into a fecking holiday in June.... so its going to have to after that..... f*@k and double f*@k........If you would like to donate to Warrens Depressed and his car is a shed fund please feel free....... VR6Pete 1,455
personally, i'd pay the extra and get it done at a reputable garage, last thing you need is a come back off it !
badboyV6 4
The cars only done 65k!!!! And i know its legit!! It was owned by a fanny driver for a few years and was used to pootle around in... The garage i went to is a VW/Audi specialist in Stonehouse, Gloucester. They are also a superchips dealer and race Vento VR6's and have a 220BHP mk IV golf rally car and a beetle RSI cup racer! They are really friendly - just had a service and he did a lot of other little things for me and didnt charge me anything. So bearing that in mind i think that 300 is a pretty fair price - do yuo think? My feeling is though if its the rings ( :-| ) Thats going to be another few hundred quid! ah well.... Ben - lol if i was to sell them for that i would make sure id got the sandpaper to them first :-) Thanks for the sympathy though guys..... Explains why my RR day figure was so bad!!! acf8181 0
ok, bentley says that... -a new engine will be between 145 and 189psi-the wear limit is 109psi-max difference between cylinders is 44psiif your car is running fine i'd leave it.[ Edited Wed Mar 02 2005, 05:47PM ]
BenW16 0
emmmm new valve seals..... £260.....
badboyV6 4
hmmm- the guy tells me the compression should be between 150 and 190PSI.The major concern was that none of mine were around the same figure- they range from 120 to 170 so my difference is higher than stated :-( It seems to be running fine although a bit low on power and torque.... The mechanic took it for a run (hes got a corrado VR6) and said it was about right but maybe a little down.... It sometimes blows a little smoke too though.....

badboyV6 4
The cost doesnt seem that bad but it just seems like a bottomless moneypit at the moment- clutch needs doing soon too... and i need to get the bodywork done... Somebody pass me the prozac BTW thanks for checking that Acf :-)

It's quite easy to say "it's a little down" but then again, I didnt even know my h/g was on it's way out until i took me plugs out... was soaking wet with coolant... drove fine up until that point....Pete
