legvw 0
I'm pretty sure I torques the con rod bolts to the vw factory setting, not sure of the head bolts though.22ft/lb then 1/4 if a turn (90*) for the big ends.

v6horse 1
head bolts should be 40nm then 60 nm then 90deg turn and another 90 deg turn , that is the factory recomended for head bolts , conrods i think is Rod bolts 38ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant hope it helps
russj249 2
Cheers mate, eventually managed to find out some information about this and found out that con rod bolts are 38 with the lube, and head bolts are 70 with lube or 85 using oil as lubricant... It says on the instructions I found on a yellow slip to tighten bolts in factory order but Do Not use standard torque figures.
FishWick 21
I did my head bolts to 80 in 3 stages.Rod bolts are stretch, so I tightened them to 40lbs 3 times.
russj249 2
That's pretty much what i did in the end. i did 40 in tighten sequence, then 60 and then last bit to 75 for head bolts.con rod bolts i did them up with ratchet to start, then to 38, after i'd done them all i went over again to double check and managed to get a tiny tiny bit more on them. FishWick 21
The rod ones are weird and there's a few variations on how to tighten them, but on my packet it said "If you don't have a stretch gauge, tighten to 45lbft". But other guys who've done VRTs said torque em up 3 times to stretch them and job's a good un. Can't argue with that as I never had any problems in over 60K in my VRT with those torques....
