filtee 0
I have an obd1 2.8 engine and am looking to swap it for a 2.9 and have it re-bored to a 3.0. My question is- what else would i need to swap other than the engine? ecu i assume? Would there be anything else as they are both obd1?

J5KE F 0
I believe the 2.9 inlet manifold is slightly different although compatible. All other parts are inter changeable..
filtee 0
So all the wiring could stay? my 2.8 is dizzy. would the new 2.9 have to be dizzy too?
J5KE F 0
NOt sure on dizzy mate... I know coilpack to coilpack is straight forwards
filtee 0
can my dizzy be coverted to coilpack? different loom and ecu is it or is there more to it?
L55KE B 1
To convert to coilpack you will need to change both of the looms (engine loom and fusebox loom), the ecu, the upper timing chain cover with cam sensor and the cam sensor pickup on the cam sprocket and obviously you will need a coilpack aswell.Or you could just put the dizzy stuff onto the 2.9 if you don't managed to find an early engine with dizzy already.Hope that helps
FishWick 21
To go 3.0 (or 2937cc to be more precise) you don't need to change anything. Why not just bore the 2.8 you've already got to 83mm and run it as a dizzy motor still? Coilpack has no power advantage over a dizzy what so ever. It's just emissions and service life related. filtee 0
Spoke the stealth today and they say no point with 2.9 or rebore, they say just put a decompression gasket on and then i can run higher boost with the charger. It works out a lot cheaper for same bhp. They recommend converting to obd2 though as better power gains can be achieved. Im gonna source the parts myself then find someone to do it.
