oldmandon 1
I have a set of Monza 7 x 17 et38 alloys, do I need to put spacers on for clearance? Or will these be fine as they are?
Ben Seabrook 4
To clear the brakes you mean ?
oldmandon 1
No, to stop them from rubbing on the suspension. I don't think I'll have a problem with them rubbing the arches as I've only dropped the car by an extra 15mm over standard VR6 height!!!! I bought some suspension, that said 40mm lower, the springs are Eibach and they are metalic grey, but apparently they aren't a 40mm drop, they are only a 30mm drop for a standard golf, and seeing as the VR6 and GTi sit 20mm lower, in effect, I've only dropped the car by 10mm, which is about what happened actually!!!!! What width are standard VR6 wheels, are they 7inch or 6.5 inch? I don't want the wheels and tyres to be sticking out too far, MOT and Plod etc. I'm also thinking of running 215's or 225's, would these be ok? It seems that 205 17 are hard to come by for some reason!!!!!!!
Ian_rogers 0
They be fine I think
Daverse 175
Best off just trying it mate?
Lukey. 381
They wear 205 profile so I'd think the standards are 7 inch wide. You would need 205/40/17 tyres to maintain pretty much the same rolling radius, this tyre size is available in every tyre pretty much. Do you know you even need spacers? I have 7.5 inch wide 17s in (I'm pretty sure without actually checking) et38 and I don't need spacers or arch modifications but the clearance on the suspension side is like 5mm but has never touched. You will have 1/4 inch more clearance each sideAside from the above statement I don't think 3mm is gonna cause you any problems
VDub_Steve 1
Standards are 6.
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah as above standards are fine and with that et should be fine to clear the suspension also mate
HAMMER_VR6 0
Are you happy with the wheels DON.The wheels will fit straight on without spacers mate, but definately buy yourself 204/40/17 otherwise your speedo will be out. personally i run 195/40/17 and they are quite rare and hard to find. 205s are everywhere

Was going with the 40 profile, so speedo will be fine, but thinking of running 225 width for extra traction and better handling. round here, 205's are that common that the tyre dealers can't get enough of them!!!???? another reason to go for a different width.
