ez_101 1
Hi all,i have a slight issue lol i topped up my water y'day and now tonight my header tank is empty only done 10-15 miles.I had a look in the bay and there is water on the gearbox, looks like either leak from the heater matrix pipe or around the coilpack? Any ideas guys?
Ben Seabrook 4
I would put money on it being crack pipe / thermostat mate but to lose that much that quickly I would also check one of your pipes isnt split
ez_101 1
I thought thermostat too, but doesnt look like its coming from there, where is the crack pipe located to and from? i will check all pipes for cracks tomorrow....
Ben Seabrook 4
crack pipe runs out of the thermo housing across the front of the block mate
ez_101 1
would it go across and above the gearbox?
craggsy 91
Id say a pipe has a split/small hole if its on gearbox
Ben Seabrook 4
no mate other way towards airbox out of the side of the thermo housing, but the water would run out and down onto the gearbox from it if its broken, got to be a fairly big leak to lose that much ! have you checked the bottom of your radiator ? Ben Seabrook 4
well apart from the header tank itself mate nope, water coming out from anywhere else would be a big issue !

CALICO 130
Could be the auxiliary water pump as well thats next to the coil pack (ish)
VR6Pete 1,455
first thing I thought of would have been the aux water pump
michael5556 247
Yeah could be the wter pump. It attaches to the brack that all your wiring goes through too.
ez_101 1
Thanks guys, i checked it this morning, and its not the crack pipe, it could be the aux water pump or a pipe around that area, unfortunatley its now dark It does look like its coming from around the area were all the wires go tbf.Any way of testing if it is the water pump? how much to replace, and wheres best to go VW or GSF?
ez_101 1
Right took it to a friends garage tonight, he has confirmed its the Aux water pump.... Any idea on cost of replacement?
Ben Seabrook 4
best bet is to have a quick ring around TPS and GSF in the morning mate, glad you found it
