Thinking of a winter hack

Recommended Posts

I bought a gas converted jeep Cherokee on a v plate. Limited edition one. Got plenty of toys on, nobly tyres and it very tidy. I gave 1500 for it. It's not bad to run seen as LPG is 69p per litre. Does 225 miles to 40 quid of gas. It's gunna be a weapon when the White stuff comes........

I've just picked up a mk5 fiesta zetecS and its a canny little car. Pretty goos fun on the back roads. Was looking at a 306DTurbo but the fiesta was a better buy (plus I'm not keen on french)

My VR was great in the snow last year but I don't want to risk driving it this year or ruin the paint.

i bought a 306 xtdt for 170quid taxed and moted off ebay, its not much of a car but it cost about a 3rd of what the vr6 did to run and it needs abit of tlc for its next mot but its going to cost nothing to do, it pulls ok nothing like the vr but its cheap to run so it has its good points, also it handles really well as stock dare i say not far off my vr6 on coil overs on the twisty bits, i wouldn't dare go round the faster corners at speed as its back end don't stay put like the vr6 but its fairly good for the legal driving and legal raging. ie not coming out of corners doing more than a ton lol.

so yea if you dont mind fixing stuff you could pick up one of them for peanuts or a old BMW but that wont do you much good in the snow lol

I would do it another way TBH....

If I have 1k to spend log on ebay/PH/Autotrader etc and pop in your search criterias...

You will be asounded what's out there... There are loadsa garages that specialise in this and of course there is always the auctions.....

Not meaning to teach you to suck eggs.... then use your knowledge on what is a good car vs what is pants and limit your selection from there... For a winter hack you will be shocked at what is out there....

Already gone I am afraid but there was a A4 quattro saloon with 50k and they wanted 1200... Was silver with leather/climate/cruise etc.... cant remember engine size... was some old blokes car.....on a garage forecourt aswell...

Just takes time and now PH has their new search function for the classifieds it makes that easy aswell.. LOL

Goodluck
