vr6_super 0
Well, thanks to a good night at the casino last week the VR6 is in the garage getting some stuff done but would like opinions on how long it should take. I dropped it off yesterday morning and it wasnt ready at closing time. They are doing.....Engine flush and refillChange steering rack and hosesChange power steering pumpRefill power steering fluidAlso when the car was in last week to get the CORRECT fluid in the system, when I got it back it had a misfire and smoke coming up from the back of the engine. The misfire was explained by "washing" something or some condensation got in there and the smoke was explained by some power steering fluid leaking on to the manifold. Tho how the fluid got on to the manifold is a strange one anyway coz there was no leak and the reservoir is on the front left of the bay, far away from mani. And in case your wondering why I am going back there, given the fault and difficulty to drive, the garage is only 200 yards from my house.Lol, back to original question, how long you reckon it would take them to do the above? oldmandon 1
3 hours tops for a decent garage.....longest job would be changing over the steering rack, followed by bleeding it!!!!!
ThermalP4 1
My car not long ago went in for exactly the same jobs.Dropped it off at 9am and picked it up at 3.30pm.
vr6_super 0
Well dropped car off Tuesday morning and they still have it. Called back Tuesday night and they werent done with it, got the "its a lot of work its in for" speech. Granted there are only 2 of them there so will let them off.Called back in yesterday afternoon and it turns out when removing the old pump and hosing they fukd up the banjo bolt holding the hose to the steering pump and he couldnt track one down. Tho they didnt call me to let me know and I could have tracked one down sooner. A quick call to the kind peeps at a south coast breakers and they are sending one up gratis and first class recorded. Will be calling back later and hopefully everything is done. VR6Pete 1,455
Not as easy as it sounds doing the rack either, sure I had to drop my subframe on the mk3 to do it properly.... unless they spent longer doing it the hard way... Also rounded off the union on my power steering pump in the pump before, naimly because I was being lazy and taking the front off the car... from what i recall, it was tricky to get too with radiator / front end in place. but as long as they are sorting it, all good... vr6_super 0
Just got the VR back home and it feels good. The problems are gone and while there is still a whiff of smoke still coming from the mani, it will eventually burn off.Altogether 200 notes inc a replacement oil filter because TMS supplied, yet again, wrong parts. I mean honestly, I give them my reg number and they still give me the wrong part. Is that common? It wasnt just the filter but 3 things I have had from them have needed to go back. Last time I go there. Also includes 15 notes for lubricant which they will be getting chased about tomorrow coz I gave them 5 litre of oil and a litre of CHF for the power steering. They didnt put any extra oil in either. All in all I expected around 200 so happy enough its now working, oh and they also done tracking as well, well it says that on the bill anyway lol
