GreenDragon 0
as per thread title, i am starting to have problems getting first gear. It is slipping into third instead, at the lights/junctions its a nightmare! With a bit of "wagging" around randomly i can find it, but in traffic its a panic second gear pull-off. All the other gears work fine, no clunks or crunches. 130000 miles on the clock. I have searched around for answers, but havn't come across the fault i have. Any ideas? GreenDragon 0
which part of the linkage are we talking about? Replacement parts or tweaking? Are they the parts on top of the box where the golf club type weight is, as there does seem to be a bit of play. I havn't had a chance to look closely, is it a box out job? oldmandon 1
Not sure on which bits exactly, and it's not a box out job, in fact you can do the repair from the gear lever by removing the gaiter. Thats as much as I can tell you I'm affraid...
russj249 2
Check that the nut on the gear selector on top of the box is tight.
GreenDragon 0
Well, have finally had a chance to have a look at my gear cables. As i began to investigate i discovered a plastic dowl type pin hanging half way out. Popped it back in and it selects all the gears fine! Thing is that it rattles out again after a few miles. Is this an OE part, or an aftermarket bodge? Thanks to all who have replied. Tom.

Andi 0
Its defo been bodged. You can tell because of the bolt holding the gear cable on. I'll get the part number you need to order. A Similar thing happened with mine.
