VR6Pete 1,455
MonkeyJug: I'd take it to another garage for a 2nd opinion, if you give a cowboy impression you dont know alot about cars, they will pull your trousers down and give it a good spanking!
MonkeyJug 0
i took it to the nationwide autocentre, at pokesdown, near bournemouth.http://www.nationwideautocentre.com/i thought it would be wise to avoid a backstreet garage - maybe i was wrong!!

MonkeyJug 0
i bought the car in october - £3800, 96k...it had an almost full vwsh. there was one gap in the service schedule where there was no service at all, and the last service was done at a porsche garage last march...i'll get the list up here tomorrow night... MonkeyJug 0
the nationwide I have been to locally have been pretty good...not the types to pull a fast one...must have had a lot of bits doing... :? exactly the reason i went there.it's not like the people there own the garage, so what would they get out of trying to fleece me?it seems like a pretty reputable outfit - and you're right, there must have been shit loads wrong with the car... MonkeyJug 0
the funny thing is:i printed a voucher out from their website, which when presented, reduced the cost of the MOT by 33%, thinking i would save myself ten or fifteen quid.little did i know i would be stung for over a grand!! &|
danp 0
Yep agreed, they don't own the place so shouldn't be lining their own pockets, well u'd not think so (mayb on commission ?)A bit late now but I always drop in a letter saying "please do x, y and z today. ANYTHING on top please call me before carrying out the work"...just to make sure.Did they let you know about this other stuff, if not u may have grounds to dispute it ? (not entirely sure how this works tho)Were you aware of any faults before the car went in that needed doing ? (i.e. listed as needing attention on previous bills / MOT sheets etc)Suggest u detail exactly what was done and how much, and the knowledgeable chaps on here will be able to say what it should cost, and whether it sounds kosher or not...take it from there (but don't leave it too long)
MonkeyJug 0
thanks for all the feedback, guys...i'll get back to you tomorrow when i know more...
shail 0
My god. I think for that sort of money you'd expect a phone call before they carried out the work. Call your local Trading Standards to a) see if there is abything you can do if youve been overcharged see if anyone else has logged a complaint on overcharging.
acf8181 0
i seriously hope this price includes timing chains, or i'll be totally gutted for ya (not that i'm not anyway....i've been there myself)
SankysVR6 1
Surely they must have phoned you to tell you what work needs doing before carrying out any work. Any reputable garage would have done the service and then the MOT as you asked, then either phoned to say whats wrong or gave you list when you picked the car up.Gutted for you mate can't wait to see that list
binliner 0
hang on I could be wrong but it sounds like you went in for a service and mot and ended up with a bill for £1170 for work they did without informing you and you've paid without knowing what they've done?tell me I'm wrong! Devilfish 0
OMFG! thats a lot of cash.. i used to live in Bornemouth i can give you the address of a mates garage who will sort you out no problem in the future just pm me for the address...

jcorallo 0
Assuming they've used VW prices, I guess this is about right.A full service, together with new exhaust and brakes from a VW garage would cost a bomb - about £1170 no doubts....Theres prob about a full days (7 hours?) labour in there you know...@£75p/hJules[ Edited Fri Mar 11 2005, 02:09PM ]
MK2R32 0
Think we need to see the invoice, so we can see where they've got there prices from..
