MonkeyJug 0
before my car went in for it's service, i meant to ask if anyone knew why my car wasn't remembering the stereo preset channels after a couple of days...i checked on google and it said something about the permanent 12v lead being in the wrong place on volkswagens. does anyone know anything about this? binliner 0
yeah... there'll be a red and a yellow power lead which you need to swap round (ie red into yellow and vice versa)
MonkeyJug 0
thanks. i'll have a look tomorrow...
MonkeyJug 0
seems like i don't have an ignition 12v lead.i have a hands free kit that needs both the 12v permanent and the 12v ignition, and because one of these is missing (or at least i'm sure it is), it is totally useless...is it possible that one of these two leads is missing? antera309 3
seems like i don't have an ignition 12v lead.If either positive feed (permanent live or ignition live) was missing' date=' your stereo would not work at all. That is, unless the wiring has been modified in some way.Any chance you could take a picture of the wiring coming out of the headunit?[ Edited Sat Mar 19 2005, 11:37PM ']
MonkeyJug 0
i'm still trying to get my handsfree kit up and running...i had another bash tonight after getting my hands on a multimeter - there are only 5 wires going into the power iso connector. i held one of the contacts on earth and tested the other 4 wires, only one gives 12v and the rest gave negligible returns even with the ignition running...my highline doesn't have an alarm because the guy i bought it from said he had to take it out because he was having problems with it. could this be anything to do with the fact i can't find a 12v ignition lead?[ Edited Sun Apr 10 2005, 08:40PM ]
acf8181 0
there is a 12v swicthed off the ignition that you could tap into....not sure what colour it is (is red with thin blue lin on my '85 mkII gti - but check in the haynes/bentley manual)
MrBen 0
From memory, I'm pretty sure there are only five wires on the power ISO connection and one should be live with ignition on. Certainly a Highline would have had this from the factory. Have you checked fuses? Does everything else inside work (cigarette lighter socket for example)?
antera309 3
The fuse for the 12v permanent live for the stereo is the one on the far right.
