cabrioman 6
if you become a premium member you will be able get a discount on many items and suppliers of said items ..... the metal layered ones are normally used when putting a head spacer on to lower compression .... not sure if anyone is using one with out but may be wrong !! VIW28 29
Any head gaskets I've done in NA cars I've always replaced them with this with no issues. Just makes mre sense than a fibre one imo
VIW28 29
Worth noting too that this head gasket came on European Sharan/Galaxy and Transporter too so not just US mk4 12v.

FishWick 21
Do VW even sell the old fibre one any more? I know Victor Reinz still sell that one, as well as the newer coated metal one.One thing with the metal gasket is the mating surfaces need to be spotless and dead flat. These gaskets have less 'give' in them and are far less tolerant of surface imperfections and to tend to leak at the pulley end. If you have any deep pitting in the head from using G11 coolant, you'll need to fill those in with chemical metal first. Also, the thinner gasket increases the compression a small amount, not that you'll notice it ;-)
