vr6 surpercharger cams?

Recommended Posts

I was always under the impression that a 268 is best for supercharge, even though a 263 would be better for a turbo, because of there being no back pressure in a charger setup, it would effectively blow boost out he exhaust.

Have you done a search as its been covered many times, but also sure some charged guys will be here soon to answer a better answer than me! :D

I think Ben and russj are correct here. I've got a Rotrex with the Schrick 268's still in and although there's a nice pick up at 4000rpm, my wideband shows lean at moderate throttle opening (ie not enriching as much as at WOT).

I've been reading around a bit and it seems that overlap is undesirable on any supercharged cam (as russj says, boost blows some of your mixture straight out the exhaust valve), so when I get home I'm planning on swapping the standard cams back in.

Most of the forums seem to agree that the Schimmel and Autotech 263's are good for boost, and Schrick sell their 268/264 grind for FI applications (but they are of course, expensive...).

Yeah, turbos have massive back pressure and you get a different problem: intake reversion. I.e. too much exhaust gases mixing with fresh intake air / fuel. There is always a wall of backed up exhaust gas for turbo engines to contend with, so 268s would be OK.

With a Supercharger, there is much less exhaust back pressure, so boost can and will go straight down the exhaust.

So the bottom line is: too much overlap is bad for both turbo and S/C, but duration is fine for both. If that makes sense.

I have just picked some schimels up from stealth for what I thought was a very reasonable £432 to my door.

Yes might be able to get some cheaper elsewhere, but saves the hassle of importing and waiting too, plus if anything goes wrong you know vince (or John in my case) will be there to sort the issues out
