GAZRICK86 0
Hi I'm not sure what this is, some sort of non return valve, that looks like a hockey puck. Basically it has split I was told by a guy at vw to just put an oil breather filter on one end and it will be fine. Which I have done. He also said I could joint it with some pipe and forget the one way valve but there's a little pipe there not sure if it's needed? Advice would be apprichiated also if anyone knows what the hocky puck looking part is called? And where I can get one other than vw asking for £120... Lol
russj249 2
Go to ford and say you have a Galaxy vr6, I got one for mine for 30 odd quid. Think the part numbers are the same too.
GAZRICK86 0
Ok that's better.. What's it called? Some sort of one way valve?

GAZRICK86 0
Thanks! Since iv put the filter on I seem to be over heating can that have anything to do with this??
Biggazvr6 0
Wouldn't think that would relate to that as I'm running a oil catch tank that vents to atmosphere n I haven't had any issues.
GAZRICK86 0
Think iv got an air lock couple of pipes are cold
Biggazvr6 0
That'll be it then. Couple of things to consider are if you have a filter on instead of the crankcase gases being taken back in it will alter the mixture of fuel, as the air that's escaping from the filter has already been accounted for by the MAff. Also you may get oil residue coming out of the pcv outlet as there is oil around the area. Sorry if you already knew this.
GAZRICK86 0
Think I'll just join it with some pipe. Thanks for your help.
GAZRICK86 0
Back to the over heating I'm sitting here in the car because it keeps over heating. The water is full there was a few cool pipes that's why I guessed an air lock but I squeezed them and it felt warmer went to drive and it's happened again! Anyone else had this problem? I'm confused lol
Biggazvr6 0
Thermostat could be stuck shut. Have u checked fans are running, fuse for fans not blown? Have u tried bleeding system properly incase it has been air locked for some reason? Have you checked no oil in water/ water in oil suspect head gasket? It does se strange that it has happened at same time as the breather Thingy but I think that is merely down to coincidence.
GAZRICK86 0
Yeah think that's a coincidence to be honest. But I'm so confused using it fine all day then randomly over heating. Fans are fine, also no "cheese" so head gaskit is fine. How do I bleed the system properly mate? Because if it's not that it's the thermostat?

Biggazvr6 0
the way i do it is as follows. it may not be the correct way or the way other people do it but it always works for me. Let car cool, or do it from cold. take off rad capfill coolant level to the max mark (keep a jug and some water handy)place a good size cloth arround the top of the coolant bottleturn heater blower to full and temp dial to fullstart engine and let it run up to temp.when temp reaches normal, check bottom rad hose is warm (think this one should get warm first) if it is all is good.check coolant level is still on max mark. run idle speed up a liitle but dont race it (no more than 1500-2000rpm), makeing sure you keep ya eye on temp gauge. i usually use a broom handle to wedge the pedal where it needs to be for 1500rpm)make sure heaters are warm at this point.watch the coolant level, as it starts getting hot, it should begin to raise slightly as the thermo stat gets ready to open.(keep revs on, some coolant may spill over, hence the need for the cloth)once the fans come on, the thermostat should of opened and the water swapped round, engine to rad, rad to engine.etc top rad hose should now be hot.take the revs off and let the car idle and wait for the fans to stop.check all hoses that should be warm are. the water level will have prob dropped below the max mark, so that will need topping back up to max.once done, i put rad cap back on and turn car off.leave it to cool for a couple of hours or overnight. check coolant level and if needed fill slowy to the max mark.put rad cap back on and that should be it, job done. i just usually keep my eye on levels for next coule of days just to be sure.when your bleeding it up just keep checking coolant temp gauge so you dont cook it.as i said this may not be the correct way but it worked for me on satdy when i changed my bust top rad hose. other thing is either water pump or aux water pump could be goosed.keep us posted.
