24v vr6 conversion

Hello people, hope you can help as have just signed up in the hope you can!!

Does anyone know if the 24v vr6 has the same engine mount positions as the 12v as am in process of doing a conversion in my mk1 and would like to get it right before I start cutting and welding?!! B)

Am tempted by the 24v rather than the more common 12v. There should be power benefits of the 24v... does anyone know any figures between the two?

how do you know there are more benefits,if you don't even know the power differnces between the two.

it will be a lot harder to fit the 24v motor due to the complex wiring for the engine,not to mention drive shaft problems.

yes the mountings are different to the 12v,especially the rear gearbox one.

I've seen the Mk4 1.8T engine fitted to a Mk1, I imagine that fitting a 4Motion or R32 engine would be of a similar level of complexity, with the added complication of converting the 4wd gearbox to 2wd.

Fitting the 4wd would involve chopping your car to pieces. This month's VWm magazine features a 1.8T Mk1 with a 4wd system fitted, and the work he had to do putting it together was just mental. Lovely car though.

As an alternative, how about fitting a 12v VR6, then fit a supercharger & Shrick 248 cams to it with the money you've saved? There's not too many supercharged VR6 Mk1s out there and it would absolutely go like stink!!

On the power gains was working on the basis that doubling the valves per cylinder would increase power due to greater charge to the inlet etc. as with the 8v and 16v mk2.

Am I wrong in saying that the 24v was fitted in 2wd format to the vw people carrier shaped like the ford galaxy?

The biggest difference between the 24v and the 12v in standard form is that the 24v has a dual-geometry inlet manifold (basically the same thing as a Schrick). That gives you 204bhp. Which is pretty much what you'd expect from a similarly-equipped 12v, so really the extra valves are doing bugger all apart from probably skewing your power and torque curves toward the top.

You might be right about the engine in the Sharan, but I don't know.
