bmw z4 3.0 vs vr6

just had a full blown drag race from near enough stand still to top end with a bmw z4 3.0 there was absoloutly nothing in it at all ..............even felt i was pulling away a bit threw third 1,2,3 literally side by side ............so impressed some flash buisness man thought my car was just some old german tank lol (litttle did he know) this wasnt some gti .......was even more impressed when i got home got on laptop and see that they are 231 bhp god knows how the golf did it maybe just the driver :-) i do feel if the old a12 road didnt run out he would of eventually passed EVENTUALLY

yes for sure like i say very surprised myself i wasnt in his car so cant say how hard he was pushing it mine was off the limiter in each gear prob would of been a different story if someone else was driving it the sums dont add up mines never been rolling roaded but has had some work ( full scorpion ,decat , filter ,lightened flywheel, !!!!

To be honest, it may have been the driver. The 0 - 60 time on one of them is a bit better than ours, they come in at 5.7sec where we come in at about 7. with your mods you might be lucky and see 6.6ish, but you will be very lucky to see it.

no i know its a quicker car mate dont want to make myself look an idiot lol .... and he did seem a bit more relaxed than me i dont reckon he was maxing it out prob just teasing me by sitting side by side but ..........im sure he was still very surprised ......the 2.5 version would be a good scrap i reckon at 190 odd bhp and around same 0-60

also i think if his was auto that could slow him down a bit .......the 2.5 s 2wd is almost same stats exactly 174 bhp and 0-60 in 6.9 and 142 mph sometimes i think torque can count for a lot oh and the vr6 is 125 kgs lighter

Don’t get me wrong, I WANT the golf to win, why wouldn’t I??!! And yes against the 2.5 you should win, the 3.0 manual, no chance, even the auto is doubtful, maybe for the first 20mph or so, but yes peole often underestimate our lowly 2.8 VR engined beasts as an old golf!!!! good aint it??!! ;-)

totally agree ....yes and i love being a wolf in sheeps clothing people that dont much about cars have no idea ............reminds me of the fiat uno turbo i once had that thing surprised a few people

Unforunately the VR is never going to be a performance weapon! Probably just another case of bad driver fast car. Good for you mate.

There might be one or two that would dispute that comment, how about a STANDARD VR is never going to be a performance weapon by TODAYS standards. it’s still pretty quick compared to a lot of stuff around at the mo.....

rather lose a bit of performance anyway and have the style sound and generally all round car with the vr6 rather than these new tin cars that wont be around in 15 years anyway

Ok a standard VR without a charger or turbo is never going to be a performance weapon.

My last two cars were a M3 V8 and a 430 Bhp evo 9 so hence my comment. I went onto bikes for speed and my fireblade has roughly the same power as the VR.

I’m a biker as well, and a car will NEVER compete with a bike on acceleration, a 200 bhp bike will p*** all over ANY 200 bhp car so it’s not really a comparison.

The old A12 just past Capel St Mary? That's a 50mph limit road. You'd have both been hung, drawn and quartered if you were caught!!

I was only saying that i use my bike for thrills and the car for crusing. I wasn't putting my bike up against a VR ! I was just sayign the bike has the same power as the VR in standard from as a reference.
