throttle pedal sits so low down now??? PICTURE ADDED!! 11th may

hi peeps and lasses

my golf vr6 has a hell of a lot of play in the throttle pedal, its almost halfway to the floor it sits now, so you can lift it with ease to the same height as the brake and clutch pedal, push it and it will fall back down to halfway point. :-)

anyone guys? this is how it sits now, it used to sit level with the clutch and brake pedal!

you can pull it level with the clutch and brake but it just has a lot of play??? now it sits half way down it doesnt afect the idle though??

I think there's a spring on the bar that comes up either back of the dash where the cable clips in through the bulkhead, is that attached?

Shouldn't be, hole in bulkhead is big enough to get something through to hook the spring. Could be talking through my arse here though but seem to remember one on mine!

Had something like this on our Mk1 Golf turbo, the cable had pulled through the bulkhead so only half throttle was achieved.

Worth a look.

It's normally the clutch cable on the mk1 that pulls through the bulkhead and to remedy that you could buy a plate for the cable to go through I'm sure it's a different arrangement on the mk3 though.

ok thanks guys, even though it sits halfway down it still retracts ok so i dont think a spring has come off as such?

Have you checked to make sure the circlip is in place where it goes through the bracket before it gets to the throttle body?

strange issue indeed, but like calico said, make sure the cable by the engine bay is secured and everything there is in place correctly before climbing into your dash.

ive taken the engine covers off today and everything looks fine regarding throttle cable.

Im only in Crawley maybe i could pop up with mine so as you can compare im working nights until Thursday then back on days Saturday Sunday so could do Thursday or friday day or evening or Saturday Sunday night.
