Tabx80 0
Had my first chance to listen to the engine from cold properly today. Lovely rattling chains. I'd imagine it's the upper guide rail that's damaged. Have replaced these before myself and the tensioner bolt. Just wondering if it's worth doing the lot though. Never read about the lower one breaking just the upper ones. A complete replacement is out of my skill range definitely so is there a recommended garage or someone that is recommended for doing complete chain changes and all the other bits that go with it

Tabx80 0
I'd say get everything done. I'm sure tony will agree the bottom guides weren't any better than the top. Also you will still be a bit paranoid about the bottom failing. Just my opinion though.

Woodyman84 3
its a 12v VR6, it was only really out of curiosity as i have little or no chain noise but was wondering if top guide an tensioner was an easy job i could do myself as a preventative measure.... (ie a job where u dont have to remove engine/gearbox etc)
