Senior_AP 0
Looking at getting a Golf VR6.Done my homework and spoke to a very knowledgeable guy at Stealth Racing. He recommends camchain change, clutch and new head gasket at 100k miles. Total cost is £1400.I will be using the car is a stripped out Nurburgring car.Why oh why didn't VW include the Cam chain tensioners as part of the service schedule?!?!? Once agin specialists have to clear up the mess of main dealer crappy servicing!!!!! x)
briscoe 0
because when it was designed they were never intended to be changed. There is no main dealer crappy servicing. Its the Crappy person in ownerships responsibility to get it serviced. There are infact vr6s with 180k on and never had them changed. depends on the life of the car and how its owners look after it. stu h 0
does anyone know what vw have to say about the runners wearing out?
Senior_AP 0
Spoke to VW, they said "they never go wrong". That's crazy as tensioners WILL become worn, thus wearing/braking the chain.Spoke to the specialist - he 'recommended' the change at 100k as a good time to do it. I dunno.....weird. VW should have really changed the tensioners though every 40k or so miles - that way there would never be any of these problems. [ Edited Wed Mar 30 2005, 02:27PM ]

[/quote']Hi there i see you have come over from Scooby net, that would explain your obsession with service level intervals Lol,I have a highline which is now on 115k and not a signe of chain tensioner wear.If they are looked after then they will last well over the 100k!Get it done and you'll have a car for life, and despite what the Scooby net lot say,VW's are a lot stronger and far more reliable than Scoobies, and i should know cos i've owned one of the best Type R's you can get(Dave Peccys Version 6!!) and it blew up on a 5k mls young engin and i only had it for 3 WEEKS,and i wasn't driving stupidly either(80mph with my family in the car on the M1!!)Any way, enough of my ranting,as you can see, this is a sore subject for me!!mike. Senior_AP 0
FAO - Mike Tonge. i only post on SN to piss off the scooby lads. I quite like "some" scoobs but on the whole they are very much the choice of the chav these days.I've never owned a scoob, though my brother and a mate had one. I've had an M3 Evo, Prelude VTEC, Clio 172, Porsche 944 Turbo the list goes on....I've got to a point now where I can't be bothered to spend thousands on a car. I have a 2 grand Vectra to get me to work and back (100 miles a day round trip) and I WILL get a Golf VR6 for a dedicated Ring/Track car. The Vectra is cheap to run/fix and when it eventually dies I'll just buy another one the very same day. All in, 2 cars, 6 and spent pretty much. That way I can have 2 cars, afford a house and still buy beer. ;-)P.S. I know VW's are solid - German aren't they ;-) Scoobs to me have no class or style.
