acf8181 0
won't even cost much from vw.shoudl be push fit....if you pull too hard the whole tube will come out the block (just has a little o ring at bottom)
binliner 0
mine never had a red plastic bit so u could just get rid of it... btw the whole tube wont just come out as it is held in with a bolt at the top (doesnt your bentley manual or etka show that acf?!)
acf8181 0
yes, sorry, theres one bolt onto the inlet...obvious tho.
VR6Pete 1,455
I've had a new dipstick on mine... but thats only due to the larger capacity sump
trackman 0
Pete - I still don't get why a larger capacity sump needs a different dipstick. Surely the oil still needs to come up to a specific level in relation to the block, so the original should still be OK?
stu h 0
mine never had a red plastic bit so u could just get rid of it... how could i do that -it's a couple of inches long at least-wont that make it go further into the sump and give higher readings? or are you talking bling replacement parts? lol
binliner 0
oh I thought the red plastic bit went around the metal bit not above it... like I say mine never had one
shail 0
i havent got one either. Did an oil change the other day, and got 5.5l into it with the dipstick showing a normal level.

VR6Rich 3
Larger sump would require more oil (I believe about 8 litres with this sump) with the standard dipstick. If you are using the same amount of oil as standard then a new dipstick is required as the level will read lower.[ Edited Mon Apr 04 2005, 07:31PM ]
trackman 0
I thought that was the point of a larger capacity sump - to hold more oil?
shail 0
FYI apparently - if your dipstick tube has a flared top it doesnt come with the red/orange plastic sleeve.
