VIW28 29
I have a notion that an R32 sump is shallower than the 2.8 24v sump....can anyone confirm this? If this is true, can it be used with the 24v oil pump and pickup pipe or foes that have to be changed too?ThanksGethin
Lukey. 381
I don't know the answer but did you read the 3.2 sump fitting sticky in tuning?
VIW28 29
I didnt, no. Though i want to use the 3.2 sump on the 2.8 24v, not 12v. Will have a wee look anyway, thanks
cornishvr6 52
I could get some measurements on the 3.2 sump this evening if that helps at all?
VIW28 29
That would be brilliant if you could mate?
Lukey. 381
Well in the 3.2 sump thread it says the 2.8 24v sump is the same as the 12v sump just alloy and that the oil pump is too high, or low, depending on which way you look at it hehe
VIW28 29
Good info man! Thanks! You'd think I would research this a bit better
UnitedMotorsport 55
Why not the 12v sump? it is made of a material that doesn't crack when you look at it wrong like the 24v ones. With how low your car is, a few millimetres isn't going to save anything.
VIW28 29
Good point, though the R32 sump sits higher than the subframe apparently. I may well just go down the 12v sump route, makes changing drivers side driveshaft easier removed plus turbo oil return configuraton easier. Would just have to make up a cover for flywheel 12v sump would leave it exposed.
Vw_owner 1
the 12v steel one if i remember right uses a 1 litre less oil compared to the 24v 2.8 , to run the 3.2 sump on the 2.8 you need the 3.2 oil stuffs , cant remember exactly but im 99.9% sure you need to change the oil pump and not just the pick up, i was looking in to this but money was an issue so i just brought the 2.8 sump as mine was cracked,

VIW28 29
That would be good. You need some measurements?

I was reckoning by the time I filled the engine, oil cooler and other associated hoses etc I'd be just shy of 8 litres of oil lol
Vw_owner 1
with it being a litre difference think about the oil temp, less oil means its gona be harder to cool, more oil it will cool down quicker as it will transfer the heat out better, atleast thats how i think it would be anyway. VIW28 29
I'm more worried about over cooling tbh...I have a 19 row Mocal on there and think it may be too large.
